Fs: Bbs E88 ($4500)

What is for sale?

A set of BBS Motorsport E88 three-piece wheels in excellent condition.

Specs?

18 x 9.5" et19; 2" lips
18 x 10.5" et19; 2.5" lips

The faces are BBS silver and the lips are polished. They come with the OE "BBS" red and white decals.

How was the fitment with these wheels? Any rubbing?

I ran Hankook RS3s in 275/35 up front and 285/35 in the rear and was lowered pretty significantly on KW Clubsports. (If you know RS3s, you know they run wide and have very square sidewalls.)

It looked absolutely fantastic. The fitment in the rear was absolutely bananas but cleared. I had zero rubbing over 99.9% of driving scenarios with the exception of the once-in-a-blue-moon road feature. But I will confess that some of the plastic lining on my car had worn away from a previous wheel and tire setup.

This will easily clear with Michelin Pilot Super Sports in the same sizes. (I would go 265/35-18 in the front, though.) I am very confident most tire setups will run without rubbing except maybe the most extreme, wide tires.

Any damage?

Nothing significant. The faces started life as gold (BBS sells them with either gold or silver faces) but the wheels were recently disassembled and the faces were resprayed silver before the wheels were re-assembled using new hardware. The wheels have probably 1,000 miles on the new faces. There are a few very minor chips and nicks in the paint from ordinary wear and tear, but nothing significant by any means. See photos below for the wear and tear on the wheels; as you can see, they are in fantastic shape.

Pickup only or will you ship?

My preference is pickup, but I will ship provided the buyer pays the shipping and associated PayPal feels. The wheels will ship in two BBS Motorsport boxes and will be packed using BBS packing materials.

The wheels are currently located at MRF Engineering in Lake Forest, California, for those willing to pick them up.

Tires?

Currently the wheels have tires on them. (Hankook RS3 275/35-18 front, 285/35-18 rear.) I was not planning to sell them with tires, but I can include the tires for a little extra for individuals picking them up. But I am only willing to ship the wheels only, however.

What are "BBS Motorsport" wheels and why would I want these? What is the advantage of the three-piece design?

BBS Motorsport wheels are some of the finest wheels you can buy with your money. They combine the best of German engineering and Japanese manufacturing. BBS E88s are true forged wheels insofar as they are made with a 10,000 ton press, not machined into a wheel form. As a result, they are extremely strong.

The three-piece design further enhances the durability of the wheels. Because the barrels, faces, and lips are all separate pieces, it makes it easy to freshen the wheels up. Paint chipped? Disassemble the wheels and ship just the faces off to your favorite paint shop to have them stripped and re-sprayed. (Much easier than having to ship off four wheels.) Lip bent from a nasty pothole? Disassemble the wheels and pop on a new lip for $200. Lips need a refresh? Disassemble the wheels and send the lips off to your local metal polisher.

Disassembling/re-assembling BBS E88s is surprisingly easy and is a very DIY'able job: http://rennlist.com/forums/wheel-and...tructions.html

Will these clear a BBK?

These will not clear the Brembo 380/380 kits.

These are confirmed to clear the Brembo GT 365/345 kit, the AP Racing 370mm kit, and the StopTech 380/355 kits (and, obviously, the StopTech 355/355 kits). I am sure they will clear the AP Racing Essex kit, too, but don't have first-hand experience.

Why did you do 18s; aren't 19s better?

Personal preference, but I think 18s suit the car better. But regardless of your taste for the E92 chassis in general, there is little room for debate on 18" vs. 19" E88s in my opinion. Why? Because BBS uses the same size faces regardless of whether you go 18" or 19" on the E88. The stepped lip 19" E88 looks a little goofy to me. But judge for yourself from the photos below what you think of the 18" E88 on this chassis.

PHOTOS

On the car:

Driver Front:

Driver Rear:

(Paint chipping near center cap; should be easy to touch up.)

(Close of up paint chipping near center cap from above.)

(Small chip in lip.)

Passenger Front:

(Small scratch in lug pocket)

Passenger Rear:

(Small defect in clear coat on inner face of the spoke. It looks like it would be rough to the touch but is smooth.)

Yes! Only daily driven. I never tracked on them. They probably had 1-2k miles on them at most after the re-spray. (I only drive my M3 ~3k miles a year.)

Thanks for the kind words! These wheels have actually sold and I neglected to update the thread.

However, I am also considering selling the set that replacement them. It is identical to the old set in width and offset, except that it is (1) brand new (less than 500 miles), (2) has wider lips in the rear (3" instead of 2.5"), (3) still has the fresh factory silver paint, and (4) comes shod in brand new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in 265/35-18 and 285/35-18.
