HELP! O2 Sensor or Secondary Air Pump/Valves?
My 2013 E92 M3 is giving the following 2 faults after I completed a spark plug change (intake plenum removed): 1) 274B DME oxygen sensor pump current calibration error before cat converter bank 2. 2) 27B0 DME secondary air system flow rate bank 1 I verified the secondary air pump (SAP) is working by feeling the vacuum pull on cold start, but I can't verify the air pump check valves (ACV) are opened without more invasive investigation. What are your thoughts? Do you guys think these two faults are related to the O2 sensor even though they're different banks? Do you think these faults coming right after a spark plug change are coincidental? I think a quick chicken test would be to swap the O2 sensors and see if the faults follow the sensors...but would really like to avoid the SAP and ACV... Thanks in advance! |

I’m currently on the same boat with 27B0 secondary air bank 1 “increased emmisions” was hoping changing out spark plugs and pre cat 02 sensors would do the trick as others have been successful with, pumps are working. Just looking to rule out other things before tackling down replacing the hose/valves altogether

Just wondering if you jumped down this rabbit hole yet and tried something else? Or if it went away?

Check the hose going from the sap to the egr valve, specifically the driver side hose. If there's a hole in the hose or its not seated all the way in the valve you'll get that code.

I was getting 27B0 and I swapped out both valves, gaskets, hardware and the Y-hose. Still seem to get the same error. When I pulled the old valves out there was little to no carbon buildup and the valves still worked. I was gonna swap O2's next. I wish I was better with ISTA to pull some sort of monitor log on upstream and downstream O2's.

After reading a bunch of threads I suspect it's my upstream O2 sensors, just ordered a pair of Bosch-OE sensors on Amazon since they are on sale there ~$75/each + tax. Planning to install this weekend and clear adaptations, will report back on if that solves it.

Step 1 (will report back on if this solves it for me, going to clear adaptations also):

Reporting back that replacing the upstream O2's appears to have completely solved this issue for me. My engine is also running smoother than ever before, I had actually thought my throttle actuators might be going bad but no longer do. Wish I had done this sooner!
Also wanted to mention that the engine needed to be running to clear O2 adaptations, I used a Foxwell nt510 OBD2 scanner for this.

I haven't. I've replaced the whole system and still no luck. I'm down to 3 last possibilities. 1-Bad DME. 2-Bad bank 1 cat. 3-clogged secondary air raceway. Valencia BMW couldn't figure anything out either. So fucking frustrating!

Did you clear O2 adaptations with the engine running and also clear the existing codes?

Yeah it actually started with a 02 sensor precat bank 2 code so I replaced it with a new one. Cleared it and it drove fine for a couple months. Then I got the 02 sensor precat bank 1 code so I swapped that as well. Cleared it and drove fine for a week. Now another code is back, more specifically:
273E DME: Oxygen Sensor Final Stage Diagnosis Heater Before Cat. Converter, Bank 1 27B0 DME: Secondary Air System Flow Rate, Bank 1 274B DME: Oxygen Sensor Pump Current Calibration Error Before Cat. Convert, Bank 2 I contacted a shop but they haven't gotten back to me yet. Hoping its not carbon buildup... maybe something with the secondary air pump? |
