I drive that route all the time and have never felt unsafe. Sure, it is not the most aesthetically pleasing drive, but I doubt things like this happen that often. Newark, on the other hand....

Hate to dig up this old thread, but I'm pretty sure I met these guys when we had the gas shortage after the hurricane. 3 guys in a black mercedes c300 tried to jack my car at a gas station by the holland tunnel. They didn't pull out a gun nor were they successful, but still be careful out there guys.

Good to know the NJPD are on the job! Maybe they're hoping the guys will die of old age. No fear though... When they finally kill someone I'm sure it will get higher priority.

I have been living in downtown Jersey City for almost two years now and felt really safe up until this thread. That stretch of 1-9 and the gas stations by the Holland Tunnel are very heavily traveled quite shocked this happened there. I would expect to see this type of stuff towards the center of town. I'll be sure to keep a look out!

bro holy shit, if that is the car you are talking about then a few weeks ago that same car with two dudes followed me from route 280. all the way to jersey city.

Damn man, glad nothing happened. Yea, when I called the cops, they took it pretty seriously - I talked to 2 detectives and forensics that night (no fingerprints or anything was found unfortunately since they had gloves) but the they said this was a pretty common occurrence in jersey city.

I mean the bad guys are storing the cars somewhere or shipping them off the island, but yet on this tiny island, police is not getting any results in tracing my car or other stolen cars..weird

Something like this happened to my friend two black cars one in front of him and one behind him gut extremely close got out of the car and stated hitting the car st a light off of 78 it's crazy if that ever happens just move don't even think twice.

Police can chase them for a short while, but the carjacked vehicles are usually highend and will usually smoke a police car. There's also a lot of liability during a chase where innocent people can get hurt. A tactic they use is to tap your rear bumper so you pull over and they take your car. I'm in law enforcement and these are a few things I do:
A: I never take my m3 anywhere questionable.
B: I have my windows tinted, dark, for some reason cars with tinted windows do not get jacked often, I tend to believe that they don't know who's inside and there may be some fear there.
C: never tailgate, always leave some space where if shit hits the fan, you can quickly cut the wheel to the right or left and just gun it til you get out of the situation.
D: I always take my "friend" wherever I go.
