Was on my way down to San Diego with my wife to have Thanksgiving with the in laws. We were on the 5 freeway passing San Juan Capistrano with a bunch of traffic when I see this 7 series weaving in and out of traffic. He pulls up next to me, stares, and then proceeds to drive off in a haste.

He even has the license plate frame too.

Not true - That X5 is an M Sport - you can tell by the larger tires and flared rear wheel well trim painted to match the body color. The regular sport package doesn't paint the flare to match the body color - just regular black plastic.

That is an upgraded package available called the M Sport package. Turbolag didn't say it was an X5 M.

Anyway here is my contribution:

Bedford Street parking garage in Stamford, CT. No other signs of any ///M upgrades

I don't get it either. My 8 year old son is a gear head and he always points out the fakes when we're driving. The funny thing is that my wife doesn't know what he's talking about-either that it's fake or WHY the ///M, AMG, etc. badges are "special".

The only people fooled by these fake badges are the people who don't care. To a car enthusiast it screams deperation.

My son especially loves the lazy Merc people who attach the AMG badge to a standard number plate. I've seen so many C250 AMGs that I almost wonder if Merc has stopped making the C63.

The coolest would be someone who was not lazy, but really dumb. I really would like to see an AMG C25 out there - or C28 or C30. Any of those would be great.

i was taught not to sign up for that class and not to major in minor things..

if they want an M badge, let them have it, if they want a AMG badge on their non amg car, good for them.

Well put, my thoughts exactly!

Has anyone ever approached the owners who sport a fake M badge, and go "hey, nice M"...and see what unfolds?

Funny to see but who really cares. It isn't as if their fake badging will change your ride. It just means they admire what you are able to drive. I consider it as admiration more than anything.

Guys get ready for the influx of ///M-XXX badged models. All other markets have already had them. Soon some of those pictures will be "I was ahead of the curve bro".

As a fellow M3 owner I must warn you. to approach at your own risk. Fake M badge people are like wild animals. They are not stable hence the fake badges. Be careful. Think about their actions, its all premeditated, they actually ordered those badges, read instructions on application, then applied them one late cold evening when no one was looking. They then stood back and felt good about that application.
Be careful - they may kill you.
