OP, to me, I don't care what I get, as long it doesn't stink, and it is clean inside.
I went inside a loaner once, man, I had to return that thing because of the smell. |

I'm not one of those people who is going to throw a fit if I don't get a BMW loaner but its a little disappointing when you pay 50k for a vehicle and don't get something like that for a loaner. Especially if your car is going to be in the shop for an extended period of time. But at least whatever you get is free.
Back when we had Volvos (will never do that again) we took it in one day and thats when I learned that they will pay for Enterprise which I enjoyed because you could get cars that were more fun than the Volvos. Got an $80 a day* BMW X3 loaded for FREE (car was in the shop for about 4 days). The guy behind the counter told me "Yeah we aint going to put you in a little Neon" and thats when I just started asking for Enterprise cars each time *back when rental cars had reasonable rates. You can barely get into a full size car for that price.

Seriously, who gives a sh*t? I don't care what my dealer gives me, I'm glad to have a car for free and a dealer that treats me well.
The stuff people bitch about.....god forbid you don't have a BMW for a few days. Cheers, e46e92

One local dealer near me uses 135s except on days when I go in for service. I get the 328 or enterprise

Lexus of Las Vegas gives you Lexus loaners usually brand new or under 12k miles, and you can return it empty, and they even tell you, if you're bringing it back when your car is ready and the gas light comes on, just try to make it here. Lol. Love Lexus. But I'm ready for the M

It isn't a big deal, but if you came from Lexus, it's just puzzling. In my experience, Lexus has always provided Lexus loaners and new ones at that. I was also shocked the first time I had my first BMW in for service. They sent me off in an older dodge pickup truck. Either BMW's need to be serviced far more often than Lexus' or BMW dealerships are just cheap on keeping enough stock on loaners. Regardless, it's no reason for me to buy a Lexus over BMW.

It's the principal not about being without a BMW for a few days. For a luxury car brand to give out Mazda 3's and Nissan Versa's that doesn't speak very well for how the dealer views its customers. Owning a luxury car is just that...a luxury so the whole experience should be so. I am by no means a snob but show a little respect for your customers and take pride in yourself, your business and your brand. For real what if some big shot executive or some shit brings in a 750il for service? There is no way they are handing him the keys to Versa.

Don't care if the loaner is a beemer, although in an inverted sort of way I'm probably more self conscious to have a bone-stock beige 328 in the driveway for a couple of days, lest my friends think I ran into financial problems.
On a side note just be glad if the dealer doesn't F-up your car while it's out of your hands. |

When you spend $70k on a car, you expect a certain level of service.

Looks like over here in M3 community we care less about insisting on getting BMW loaner. I personally wouldn't mind as long as there is a car to drive and it is in acceptable condition. Like others mentioned, it is only for temporary use.

I always had a BMW for a loaner. But then again my car has been at the dealership for a couple of times only. I gotten a 328i and a 528i. I don't think that the dealership has a whole feelt of BMW loaners on site. And also there are other people that are getting their BMW fixed that might need a loaner too. So they were before you at service time and got the last loaner. To me it does not matter, if the service does not take too long, I'll wait. But if it takes more than a couple of hours and they give me a car, I really don't care what it is, as long as I can go and do my stuff.

Plus look at it this way. What if you're leasing an M at 950 per month for 3 years. Not to mention sign up fees and insurance. Let's say over the course of 3 years, you drove around in a loaner for a total of 4 weeks. That's almost a month. No matter what, you always have to make your payments. Do you think BMW will say at lease end, "Well since you drove around in an Altima during that time, we will reimburse 600 of your 950 payment." I doubt it.
I even knew a guy who was paying over 1,200+ for a 7 series a few years back. It was constantly at the dealer for some problem. He made a comment that he's been paying over 1,200+ for a 3 series for 2 months. |

People bitch about the stupidest things...who says they have to give you a loaner in the first place? You are driving it there because YOU want something done to your car, I'd understand a big warranty claim that would take a week but a day or two...please. wahh wahh!

Been with South Motors BMW for years now and I usually get a 328. They do have some other cars on site in case they run out of BMW's but that's only happened to me twice. One time they did give me a Nissan and it smelled like pure cigarette. I told them I wasn't taking that and they gave me another Nissan which was fine. Last time I got a 128i which was nice.

Pro tip: if you request a BMW loaner when you make the service appointment, you will get a BMW loaner.
At least this is the case at the 4 dealerships I've been to. |

Like everybody else, lots of dealerships are trying to save money these days - which I think is the main reason the BMW loaners are sometimes hard to find. It definitely varies from dealership to dealership. Typically the ones that do offer 3-Series loaners are 328 sedans with the Premium package that then after ~12,000 miles, turn into those special deals where you can "..lease a BMW 3 Series, nicely equipped, for just $3XX per month..".
If some jackwagon hits you and your car is in the body shop for a month or more, that's when the whole loaner car thing starts to get a bit more tense. The insurance companies want to put you into something for $25 a day. Now that's a nice car right there... |

Bottom line my dealer has 50+ BMW loaners, and even then its not enough at times, so I always tell me SA they if they want they can stick me in something from their rental location (mostly Toyotas) and save the BMW for people I know really want. In fact, they used to have 7's but people were FUCKING them up, and it was costing them a fortune, so now the have 1s, 3s, 5s, X3s & X5s. But you would die laughing at people who come in with a 7 and seem insulted that they are forced into a 5 or 3, pompous pricks. For me the luxury experience is the kick-ass mechnics and SA's I have at my dealer along with the warranty plus maintenance package that my BMW comes with for 4/50k. Add in the valet service my dealer offers, and they could show up with a Civic and I am still VERY SATISFIED with both my dealer and BMW. What your paying is better engineering and the car itself, the other things we demand are very expensive to provide. Dealers get screwed on warranty work all the time, and its not as easy as it seems to make money, though you can make a ton if done right. BMW doesn't just build a car for the same amount of money as a Ford, and then slap a surcharge on it, the car costs more the build. Cheers, e46e92
