BMW did say they weren't gonna release a CSL version but if this is true it is very exciting news!!! I gotta say that the RS5 looks F'in HOT!!!!
Direct link to article: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=132004 EDIT: If you read the article it states that BMW will not release the M3 CSL right now due to decreased demands. Here's the quote: Is the BMW CSL Still in the Game? In fact, BMW may have already folded in this poker game. Ludwig Willisch, the new chief executive of BMW's M Division, noted that there's not enough demand to justify the expense of developing the limited-edition CSL, confirming comments made earlier this past summer by Klaus Draeger, the M division's development chief. Our sources say that the hard-core CSL — uprated to 450 hp and slimmed down by 220 pounds compared to the standard M3 — had been just 12 months away from production after numerous sightings during development at the Nürburgring. But Willisch has burst our expectant bubble. "Based on current numbers, there is most likely insufficient demand for the M3 CSL," he recently told a representative from a German automotive Web site. |

Looks hot, but why is there only one picture of the would-be-CSL? I agree with sparky. Why X5M and X6M instead of CSL? Who the fvck cares? Makes no sense to me. Is it competition with Porsche's Cayenne? I don't know.

I mean I'd rather see a CSL too, but they are in the business of making money first. So as a business decision I understand it, but as an enthusiast, I wish they would focus elsewhere. |

If the X5M and X6M keep the M division in business then I'm all for it as long as they keep cranking out awesome M3s.

Yup, I agree...it is never coming to the states so who cares about the CSL...we all upgrade our sh*t anyway and some of reduce weight so we create our own CSL's anyway!

They might change their minds when the RS5 gets released and starts whooping the M3's butt. You know they hate to loose. Only time will tell.

Yes I had seen all this before, it is too bad there will be no CSL. But don´t be soooo sad, you can always build your own CSL.

I don't think the RS5 is going to be a direct competitor for the M3 because of price. You figure a B7 S4 costs about mid 50s low 60s. The B7 RS4 costs about mid 70s so about 15k to 20k difference from S to RS. The S5 costs about mid 60s so the RS5 is probably going to be well over 80. Audi might price itself out of this competition.

The only real reason to slap an M badge on these boats is the name. They are thus NOT FOLLOWING the //M heritage as explained by the head of //M about a year ago in Roundel. He said an //M has to be relatively light, be rear wheel drive, and have a manual type tranny (ie not a slush box). He also said an //M has to have a high reving NA engine and be relativley light. That was the reason there was no M7. These boats follow NONE of these principles. Why couldn't BMW just call it an iS like theyd did in the past?
