I called and spoke with a couple of Dinan representatives, they would not give me that info, but they did try to sell me the Dinan A/C BELT.

I just received my kit in the mail (note their annual 10% off sale going on now). Which belt is it, the dual sided or single sided? I’ll measure it tonight.

The D561-0002 A/C belt for the later version Underdrive kit is a double sided belt. I am not aware of any off the shelf available belts that cross reference to this size. A while ago I had a customer who popped his and needed this replacement belt asap. I looked through all my Gates, Bando, Goodyear, Dayco, Continental, and AC Delco catalogs and couldn't find one. I overnighted one from Dinan. Not worth it to spend hours chasing ghost part numbers.

Furthermore, this double sided serpentine belt is not one you're likely going to find stocked at any local store either. It's just not common. Much less trying to find an obscure length double sided belt.

It's only $47 from Dinan. It's not that much more than a new OEM belt.

So I ordered some belts from Dinan...

Seems like the water pump belt is a NAPA 6PK1421... NAPA? Really? And $32.08 for a NAPA belt? This is a $15 belt all day long. We will see if it fits but NAPA?

As for the Power Steering - A/C belt, it seems to be a 6DPK1070. This is available from ECS and Turner for $19.95. Good to know as Dinan charges $53.50.

Anyway, if anyone has a 2008-2013 M3 with the Dinan under-drive pulleys, this is your replacement part information.

Cheers,

Just to clarify, Dinan offers two different pulley kits for the E9X M3.

Part# D560-0003 is for 2008-5/08 production date (single-sided power steering & AC belt)

Part# D560-0004 is for 6/08-2013 production date (double-sided power steering & AC belt)

Yup. That is why I listed 2008-2013.

Cheers,

Double checking to verify that the 6DPK1070 part number from ECS is the correct part number for the Power Steering/AC belt? Just snapped mine and wondering if it’s worth the risk of saving some bucks versus just ordering from Dinan.

The two belts you need to complete this install are:

6pk1421 and 6dpk1070

I actually just finally installed mine today. Well worth it.

Install tips:

When sliding out the fan, be careful with that driver's side cooling line nozzle… It looks brittle af, like it can break off quite easily.

I didn't want to take it off and potentially introduce air into the cooling system, and can confirm it's possible to remove/install the fan to complete the install with that line in place.

So, loosen the expansion tank cap to release the pressure from the cooling system (if engine is warm), you'll be able to really flex the little hose to put less pressure on the nozzle. This will also relieve any pressure on the big coolant hose near the pulleys to slide the fan out.

Driver's side of the fan is held in place by a press clip, while the passenger side of fan is held by a torx screw.

The torx size for the pulley bolt is a T25 (have to work in blind since you can't see into it). Be careful not to knick the interior of the radiator when you're working in there, those radiator fins bend super easily.

Finally, when you're putting the first belt on, set it into place before re-installing the idler pulley, this makes it wayy easier then having to have to squeeze it in between and potentially putting a tear in the belt.

Super helpful info! Both belts ordered so hopefully we can get her back up and running by next weekend.

The accessory belt install with the Dinan under drive pulley a few weeks ago was super straight forward thanks to your tips.

I only ran into one hiccup which occurred while reinstalling the radiator fan. I broke the plastic tube coming out of the upper radiator hose that connects to the expansion tank which seemed inevitable to break while reinstalling the fan unless I removed that hose which I probably should have done in retrospect. Never the less I just needed to order a $20 dollar replacement hose and a bottle of BMW antifreeze to refill what spilled out and I was all set.

The alternator and water pump hose were a bit of a pain but was able to get the belt on with a pick tool. The power steering and AC belt went on without much struggle at all to my surprise.

Nice, well done; all is well that ends well.

Given that some air may have been introduced into the cooling system with that nozzle break… Did you complete a burping procedure to assure any air has been removed?
