We had issues at first with the m/t with the shifter unit popping out back to neutral. A part upgrade was released and it cured that issue.
It did have a engine crank bearing recall on the first batch of engines. The only time we've changed engines was when It was too late to change the bearings. It was really rare the engine had a bad crank.
Beside little fixes, where I work all the technicians agree that they reliable.

The coolest thing MINI did recently was shipping overseas a bunch of R56 GP, the dealer where I work got 3. These were so fun to drive!

BMW should offer more option like recaros, I bet a lot of customers would pay premium to get these.
I saw the Mini JCW Recaros for sale at a Mini parts website and it was brand new for around $1600 USD with airbag module, which really isn't bad. Didn't know if it was a direct bolt on for the E92 M3 tho and couldn't find any info so I passed

The R56 platform is good 2011-2013, the N14 in the 2007-2010 has some bad timing chain issues that will never be fully cured. The N18 with a Burger tuning JB+ or JB4 is a blast to drive and the R56 platform is much easier and more comfortable on long trips. I race a factory F56 JCW with the Dinan tune and it is by far the smoothest, least Raw Mini. The 2.0 modular motor is much more power than outgoing models and is extremely easy and smooth to drive. The interior is the least "MINI", but the seats are the best and most adjustable over all, it is slightly bigger so it would be the closest to your GTI but also runs out of RPM's WAY to early in my opinion. All 3 are vastly different platforms. Honestly, the the torque you can get out of the GTI's with an APR tune, thy are hard to beat, especially since you can get a comparatively optioned GTI with discounts for far less than my 2017 JCW which tips the scale at $42,000!!!
Awesome info! I've been going back and forth with fred340 about some Mini info as well. Love the little cars and I'm just getting frustrated with my GLI. Timing chain tensioner crapped on me causing the whole top end of the motor to get fried. I have since fixed it, but I've got a sour taste and just don't want the thing anymore. Maybe I just need to toss on the APR tune to rekindle my love...

Is it a manual? If it is an APR tune will torch your clutch unfortunately. The car will run like it has an extra cylinder or two, but it really does a number on the clutch system!!!

2013.5 DSG. I had a 2012 6MT from new and the pressure plate and all shattered on me with about 18k on the clock. That with a lot of other different issues resulted in the car being bought back from VW and I got into the DSG I have now.

Yeah the DSG seems to hold up to the added HP and TQ of the APR tune. Is it not amazing the HP output you get with their tune and nothing else. EspeciAlly on the golf R, holy cow!!!

Totally. I was eyeing the tune with my last GLI, but now that I've had the gen 3 motor, the results from it is pretty astounding (especially if you look at it as percentage gained).

Nothing crazy, ironically hubby drives the family sized truck, and I'm the daily driver in my M. Roles reversed.

My three babies . The wife drives a new Audi A5 . I can't stand Audi , Range Rover is the worse car for service . Never had a car go in for warranty this much. These two cars won't be around after the warranty expires.
