Will Dealer Hardwire Radar Detector on Lease?

I guess I could just call the dealership for this answer, but maybe someone here could answer it for me as they are currently closed.

I'd like to hardwire an Escort Redline radar detector so I can place it just below the rear view mirror (just a basic power cord that would connect to the battery or some power source). Any idea if the dealer would be willing to do this on a lease?

Depends on your relationship with the shop, mist likely, no.

I doubt that... but to be honest it kind of depends on your relationship with your SA... with a really good relationship you can probably get them to do anything...

EDIT: why not take on the task yourself... It takes no longer than 5mins for a skilled person or 10min for a not so DIY kind of guy

I just wouldn't feel comfortable pulling off all the plastic guards/panels to run the thing (hidden) to the battery...if that's what would be needed.

I wish I could just use the invisicord (pulls power right from the back of the rear view mirror), but BMW uses a different mirror set up than most...so that won't work.

no need to run to battery... check out the thread above... I also didn't pull out the panel... I just unscrewed it and loosened it a bit just to stuff the wire in there...

Good luck

Looks like a big project if I were to do it, but at least I know it can be done. Thanks for the link!

Why wouldn't the dealer do it for you? Lease or purchase, what's the difference? Personally, you're better off going to a stereo shop that does high end cars. They can knock this out in less than an hour, and for 50-75 bucks.

I live in a very small town and we don't have any shops like that. I'll have to talk with the dealer and see if they would be willing to do it.

Finally, an advantage to living in Houston. I believe the dealer would accommodate you.

Now that I'm not tired and actually read everything over, it really doesn't seem too bad. I think I'll grab the parts and give it a try myself. Sounds like the most tedious part will be hiding the wire, but even that doesn't look too bad. Thanks for the guide!

Do it yourself dude. Its not that hard at all. I hardwired my V1 on my 335 lease in less then an hour. I removed it when I turned the car in and reinstalled it on my M. There is no cutting or anything like that involved. You just by the fuse splitter for a couple bucks from radio shack or your auto parts store and then plug that into your fuse box. Then run the cable behind the glove box and under the passenger side pillar and tuck it into the headliner and then your done.

Hit me up if you want some more detailed directions. I also seen that some people have been able to tap into the power inside the rear-view mirror but I dont know about that. I just know how I did it and it works great.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I think I'll get started on this in a little bit and post how it went after.

+1 Why wouldnt they??

This is an easy DIY - I hardwired both my M3 and X5 to put the wire near my rearview mirror and it took maybe 30mins each. No pulling of panels etc. Just had to remove a few bolts in the foot well.

Did the install today...wasn't bad at all (and that was doing it outside in the middle of winter). Thanks for all the help and suggestions...saved me money and was nice to do that myself.

I ran into a little issue with power, but I switch out the 3 amp fuse and moved it to the other slot on the fuse tap (not sure which it was), but had no problem after that.
