Question Best all around choice for polisher/buffer ?

Greetings,

What's the best all-around polisher/ buffer you guys like ? I still have my porter cable from 10 years ago, it does not have variable speed - just on and off. I bought it years ago directly from Meguiar's when they sold full kits, it does an OK job. I use a variety of hex cell foam pads from Chemical Guys.

But I see the fancy Rupes with all their different sizes, variable speed, etc. - I want something I can use for polishing very fine type polishes, and waxing type products.

And before I get yelled at by the admins - I placed this posting where there's a lot more viewers than in the Waxing/Detailing page so I can get more feedback.. cool

good question. I've been looking at the TORQ 10FX. Rupes is top of the line but I'm not a pro and only plan to do my own vehicles so I think the Torq 10FX will suite me just fine.

I bought the TORQ 10FX kit from Chemical Guys and am very happy with it. I waited until they had one of their 25 or 30% off sales and saved a good chunk of change. I use it once every couple months to either spread wax or do some sort of correction.

How often do they have those sales? I've been waiting to pick one up.

And honestly if you’re not a professional and just doing it as a hobby...don’t waste your money on the more advanced expensive polishes they have. I bought their $150 kit and they work just as good as the super expensive ones...at the end of the day, it’s all about the operator and not a polisher.

I love my Makita Rotary Polisher. Wouldn't change it for anything. You do need to know how to use it though.

I ordered the Torqx off Amazon. If you're patient, they run sales all the time. Chem Guys can be a bit obnoxious but they do have a lot of how-to vids. The polisher is affordable and does a good job.

From time to time and holidays. Maybe Labor Day or Black Friday.

You can also throw it in your Amazon cart and wait for the notification that it dropped in price.

I have the rupes 15, and love it. Just make sure you invest in quality pads. They really make a difference.
I had a flex before. If was good. Rupes just better.

I have the Rupes 21 mkII and the torq 10fx. The torq is more than sufficient to achieve excellent levels of correction with. Your technique, pad choice and polishes is what will determine your results no matter if you use a porter cable or a Rupes. Practice your technique and find products that work.
