I just had my rod bearings done and got the motor mounts and bimmerworld dipstick installed at the same time. Went to change the oil after 1000 miles break in and found alot of metal shavings in the oil filter. apparently the mechanic who worked on my car forgot to clean the shavings out of the oil pan after drilling the hole for the dipstick bung. the car appears to have been running fine except for a higher pitched metallic whine especially when highway cruising. have you guys who had this done found any aluminum shavings in your oil filter?

First off, after I am inside an engine, I prefer to change the oil early, like 100 miles. Second. If the mechanic really did "forget" to clean out the inside of the engine after drilling a GD hole in it, you might want to find a new guy. That is pretty much the ultimate bonehead move. I hope nothing serious comes of this. GL |
