Oil pan thread stripped and broken

I am new to these forms I just got an M3 e92 2011
Awesome car I didn’t know the last time the oil change was done so I thought I’d change it I took it to some Indy mechanic shop and he told me that the last guy who did the oil change stripped the screws and now it’s all together by some crappy bolt that leaks very slowly it’s giving me nightmares and I checked the price of a new oil pan and thought it was not worth it just for a stripped thread I Read how people were talking about the Heli coil or the time sert Should do the trick but the thread inside is cracked a bit I posted some photos do you think it still possible to do this

thats not a crack, its part of the oil pan casting so all oil can drain from pan when changing the oil. i would take it to a trusted independent shop, or tow it to the dealer for a proper repair.

i recommend time sert. if u havent installed one before i would find someone who has to help if you are going the DIY route. just keep in mind you are working on a very expensive engine.

A good Indy shop will charge you a few hundred bucks for a timecert (or similar).

Just get the new oil pan and do rod bearings at same time. Depends on your mileage...

No need to get a new pan (they are EXPENSIVE).

Time-sert can be installed with the pan in the car. If you go slow and grease your bits and tools, very little soft aluminum will remain in the pan. Buy some cheap cheap oil to flush through the engine after doing the work to get rid of the rest of the swarf. Fill with proper oil and replace filter (if it is needed).

If you do take the pan off to fix, then you might as well do both plugs with time-serts.

Cheers,

As mentioned before the Timesert can be installed with the oil pan on. If you can find a shop that specializes in thread repair, I would recommend that over a BMW place as if the insert is not installed properly, you can get drips. If you go the rod bearings/new pan deansbimmer sells reconditioned ones.

Oil pan stripped, fix or new pan when doing rod bearings? https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1450332
