Smile Navigation and CD not working

I am the original owner of a 2008 M3 convertible. All of a sudden my CD and Navigation DVD are unresponsive. I get an error message that there are no CDs or DVDs in the slots but they are definitely in there. Nobody else has been in the car so nobody has been playing a trick on me and removed them!

The open/close buttons are also not responding so I cannot remove the CD/DVD from the slots in the dash to clean them off or check and see if they are damaged.

I tried a "reset" where I pushed the volume and CD and DVD buttons at the same time but this did not help.

I do not want to spend god knows how much money to have the entire modular assembly replaced.

Any ideas?

Maybe try disconnecting the battery to reset the electronics. I'm not sure it will work with this problem but if you're looking for something cost effective that might be worth a try.

So everything else on the radio works fine?

I thought about trying to disconnect the battery and see what happens. I did put new batteries in the fobs; no luck there. The radio still works, regular and satellite at least..for now!

i am still without a solution. I have found two sites that say that they repair CIC and CCC units; one logic7repair in Texas, the other Hi tech electronics in CA. I looked at old comments from posts several years ago and there was no consensus on either one of these companies.

I never plan on selling my M3 and I would like everything to in working order. I prefer not to spend > 1000 dollars so the dealer can sell me a refurbished unit. I would rather just have the unit that came with the car repaired. I have several classic cars and keeping them as close to original as possible enhances the value.

Anyone have any experience with either of these companies?

I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
