Tips for shipping tires?
Hey guys, I'm selling my tires, but I've never shipped them before. Any tips on the cheapest way? or the easiest way? I noticed most dealer ship them via UPS or Fedex, unboxed or unwrapped, which I presume is the best way to do it, but is it the cheapest? Is there a tire shipping flat rate? |

I have shipped tires several ways - UPS seems to always be the quickest, but expensive. I have shipped tires through the post office as well. The post office was very affordable, but did take about a week to get to the buyer.

1) use fedex
2) print labels 3) affix labels with packing tape, make sure they run inside the tire, not along the treads 4) drop them off at a fedex location Fedex is cheaper than UPS, at least for me you're shipping a tire that probably sees more abuse, wear and tear on the road than being mishandled during transit. No need to add boxes/excess weight |

I ship via fedex and have found that taping two tires together is cheaper than shipping each tire separately. I simply tape the shipping label to the tire(s). No packaging required for tires.

I know it varies based on distance and weight, but generally, what are some rates you've been charged through fedex? |

1. Do you also tape the label inside the tires? I've seen Tire Rack tape them on the thread (waterproofed by completely enclosing the label with clear tape) 2. what do you use to hold the tires together? Again, Tire Rack uses those industrial plastic ties, but I'm not sure where I can get my hands on some one (I might try a local tire shop or speed shop) |

are post office shipping methods similar to UPS and Fedex? such as methods for affixing the label, bounding two tires together, etc? Or are there more unique rules?

Shrink wrap or tape... Isn't that what we are talking about? There is no need for tape or shrink wrap if you aren't binding two tires together. To be clear I wouldn't put shrink wrap over the shipping label because it will become hard to read.

You are over thinking this.... It's no different than putting a label on a box. If someone wants remove the label off of your box they can easily do so.

I was told by UPS to always box the tire because i charge you a box fee for items not boxed (the guy said coz it was a PIA when stuff like that ran on their belts)
I made the "tire rack ships that way" argument, the guys figured they had a deal or something. Whether or not he was full of $hit or ignorant as fcuk about the process, it was still not cheap I found that USPS is the cheapest, it may take a few days longer but if the buyer doesn't care it saves you both money

It was over a year ago and if I'm not mistaken that was both.

Use plastic wrap to bind two tires together side-by-side, running the wrap around the outside edges and them the inside, round and round 'til they're completely wrapped. I used FedEx last time--cheaper than UPS, actual tracking unlike USPS.
