As an American that is very happy that we have the right to vote in this country and have defended that right, I think it is unimaginable that someone would brag about not voting for 14 years. That is disowning your rights as a citizen.

Oh dear, what a shame.

I finished McCainís book a few weeks ago and one of his main subjects was the vast number of oppressed people in this world who would like to be able to vote. In fact, McCain, sometimes at his own mortal risk, met with dissidents who were willing to give their lives in order to have free elections in their respective countries. And many did lose their lives while trying.

I've missed one vote in my life and that was because the ballots got to me two months too late.

I absolutely agree. Voting matters.

Maybe its not available where that gentleman lives, but ballot by mail is a very attractive way to vote; especially for us type "a's" that hate to wait in line. There really is no excuse not to vote, indeed it is our civic duty to vote.

The low voting numbers should be a huge embarrassment to our country. I don't know how to label the behavior. Apathy? Laziness?

That should be embarrassing to him but obviously isnít. More so than anything it shows his own stupidity. One must never relinquish a right or a privilege. To many people have fought and died for them.

I encourage anyone dumb enough to believe that QAnon nonsense to NOT vote, and I'd be more than happy to hear about it.

Just a question for you guys that are so aggressively attacking him for not voting - if he had voted for Johnson or Stein or written in someone, would you still be angry? The impact would have essentially been the same, so......

The act of not voting isn't relinquishing a right....no more so than the act of not owning a firearm. It's as much of a choice as casting a vote or owning a pistol.

The popular vote in the Presidential elections means absolutely NOTHING.

President is elected by the Electoral Colleges votes; which they can choose to vote however the fuck they feel like it. AKA whomever lined their pockets accordingly.

Truthfully the only votes that matter would be those to elect your representatives; and even then they can still choose to vote for whoever they want.

Some states have laws requiring the electors to vote in accordance with the popular vote from that state.

In other states you are absolutely correct - they can vote for whomever they'd like.

Seven faithless electors in 2016 election

In the 2016 United States presidential election, seven members of the U.S. Electoral College voted for a candidate different from the one for whom they were pledged to vote. The Democratic Party nominee, Hillary Clinton, lost five of her pledged electors while the Republican Party nominee and then president-elect, Donald Trump, lost two. Three of the faithless electors voted for Colin Powell while John Kasich, Ron Paul, Bernie Sanders, and Faith Spotted Eagle each received one vote

In WA state we have an antiquated delegate process for the primaries. It's illegal for delegates to change their vote but the penalty is a relatively modest fine. If I recall correctly, there was some back-channeling during the primaries to try to get HRC delegates to change their vote to Bernie, with supporters offering to pay their fine.

What ticks me off more than anything is the idea of the "Super Delegate" in the Dem party. The thought that some big shot is granted more voting power than me seems about an un-American as you can get. One person, one vote. Period.
