I thought my cup holder needed replacement

A common problem most E9X has - the broken cup holder.

I wasn't able to get mine pop back out since a few weeks ago and I assumed the spring was broken.

After the kids went to bed early last night, I decided to take out the cup holder and just have a look at it.

To my surprise, it wasn't broken at all, I just wiped it clean and put it back in and now it's working fine again.

Even if it was really broken, it wasn't going to be an expensive replacement anyway (by BMW standard). But fixing little things like this kind of made my day, or night

Now, looking forward to take care of the more serious issues such as rod bearings, throttle actuators and driveshaft...

I heard you can do the same thing for rod bearings. Just wipe it clean and put it back

i did, plus the two screws that was holding the cup holder in
i was going to disassemble the cup holder unit and realized it wasn't broken at all.
I'll be looking into the seat belt arm extension next...

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I thought you had to get it open to access the screws? I have had to replace one on my E90 and both on my E60.

I don't know if there is one on the forum, but I basically pried the trim piece with a flat head and then remove the two screws that were holding the cup holder unit in place. The removal process took less than a minute.

I wish we could do the same with the seat belt pusher thingies.

Speaking of which, it really does seem like it's a spring in those? Anybody tried just replacing the spring?

Most likely seatbelt extender problem is the belt retractor being worn which lets it flop out. A new belt will get it working again. Personally I just coded them off. Unless your arm doesn't come out at all. Both my arms work fine but drivers belt is way more worn and less stiff so it falls out when the arm grabs it. Passenger one works like a charm. If your belt doesn't pull tight to the B pillar when removed it won't work.

I had a problem with one cup holder getting jammed up in my 335...took it apart and one of the gears were jacked up. I removed the gear and the holder shot out like a slingshot LOL. No more having to wait for a slow ass cup holder to slide out.
