Which would you choose? - MC2/C8/E9x/997

As part of the small number of E9x owners who have considered getting into a M2/M2C since it was released a few years back, and with the C8 being announced,
I thought it would be fun to take a poll of cars in that price range.
I threw in the 997 Carrera S as well, as it was the e9x's competitor at the time.

Obviously the performance/potential of the newer cars is leaps ahead of the older cars, and we still don't know how good the C8 really is.
But i thought it would be interesting to hear your opinions on these 4 options in the 40-65k price range.

What for? A 911 and a M3 fill completely different use cases for me. Have kids? Are they over 10 years old? Do you have a second daily? Will you be on the track much? (etc)

I chose E92 M3 and M2 competition because:

-E92 M3: Perfect except for weight.

-M2 competition: Nice I6 engine, awesome design, short wheelbase.

Reasons why I didn't choose the remaining cars:
-997 S
1. Mediocre performance and reliability on track;
2. Expensive to maintain; and
3. Backseat is a joke.

-C8 Corvette
1. First ever mid-engine Chevy, need to be cautious for a few years; and
2. They probably won't sell them in JP.

My .02 after owning a 997.1 4S, M2 6spd, E92 DCT

The 911 was my least favorite of the three, probably explains why I owned it the shortest amount of time. I completely understand why people love 911's now after owning one. It is perfect at everything: Fast, comfortable, well built, great looking etc. However for me it just was never playful. It didnt have any soul or character. It was also so capable that I never really explored the limits of the vehicle.

The M2 (non comp) is an excellent fun toy car and daily driver in one. Has lots of character, the noise is great, great playful chassis, excellent tech for daily commuting. However it never FELT special. It was missing something hard to describe. It didnt do it for me as a weekend only car. However it was more interesting than the 911.

e9x is my current obsession. The motor and power delivery truly make the car special. I love the way it sounds, I love the high rev nature, and it is fantastically balanced on track. I am quite a bit more confident/faster in the M3 than I was in my M2. The M3 just feels more special.

On the C8... the engineering per dollar is incredibly impressive. It certainly LOOKS like a very special car. However being in detroit everyone with a credit score higher than 650 will be driving one soon....

C8 should be the best of those, assuming a 2 seater works for you. I think the C7 is great and the C8 should be even better but a Corvette is probably not my thing and I want AWD for year round driving. A Porsche might do it but I would want a 991 version 911 Turbo and they are still about $100k used.

Well, I test drove a 997 and my e92M. I chose the e92. If it was something above a carrera, I'd opt for the 997 most likely. C8? Seriously? Very different cars and frankly, the lack of a manual makes it less appealing to me. M2C? Great car. If I didn't own the e92, this is what I;d want. I don't like it enough to make the change. I wouldn't argue with someone who does though.

For my money, I'd rather have a C7 grand sport vs everything on the OP's list.

I own a e92 m3 and have driven a 991 model gts. Haven’t driven the other cars you mention.

The 911 is pretty cool but not as “playful”. Lots of traction and the handling on the road isn’t as great as I thought it would be. Sounds awesome but also not as fast as I thought it’d be. Ive driven a few Boxsters including a 987s and a 718gts. They are very fun cars. I’d consider adding those on your list. I want to sell my m3 for a 718 now. Very go kart like and very fast. Sound is the only thing which seems a step down.

I have voted as though the cars had no values.

Opt1: M2 - Newer technology. Very sculptured. Acceptable rear seats. Works well with a re-map. Wife likes them.

Opt2: E93 M3 - Old school cool. Looks good. Sounds great. Good rear space.

Opt3: 997 S - Love Porsches. Back seat will fit my 5 year old. Goes well. Sounds great.

Opt4: C8 - 2 seats, 3 in family.........wont work. End of.
