"Do not use Launch Control too often; otherwise, the powerful stresses on the vehicle will lead to premature component wear."

Make sure they do it right ... if you have MT all oil (engine, transmission and differential must be changed) if DCT then the transmission oil does not require change at this time.

I point this out since not all SA know that I had to argue with mine

My dealership knows their stuff, but nevertheless I confirmed that all items were on the list.

Drove her out on some twisty, remote, newly paved country roads, then filled her tank, washed her, and put her back in the carhole.

Well, kind of . . . Check out M. Miller's Lifetime Maintenance Schedule. Short answer: If you want the car to last, change the gear oil, even if you have a DCT. Otherwise, don't bother.

I think we can trust the BMW people here ...

"The optional M DCT Drivelogic transmission has a long-term rated oil DCTF-1, which requires no replacement unless specified for a repair"

Comments from a Pentosin Chemical Engineer about the effects of intense heat on the BMW-DCTF-1 (FFL-4) fluid:

"We vex the FFL-4 for 192 hours at 170°C (338°F) by bringing in air. It is still okay after this treatment. But this is an aerobic treatment whereas in the gear box the FFL-4 sees an unaerobic atmosphere most of the time. If you take an hour of this lab test and estimate that, it is equivalent with an hour of the car running at 200 km/h (124 mph) you get a milage of 38400 km (23861 miles). But obviously one hour at 170°C under air stands for more than 1 hour at 200 km/h. According to BMW it is 5 hours at 200 km/h."

PS. In North America we don't drive at the above specified speeds, even in Germany I may drive that fast, however, never for such long periods I often stop for coffee breaks for German coffee is just so delicious at the many Autobahn Gas stations, speaking of gas stations ... if we drive our M3 at those speeds we have to find a gas station way under 5 hours anyway

Well I definitely ran into the same descriptions on the manual. It is quite controversial by saying "do not use too often". How often could it be?

I've been really good to my M, treating her to only Chevron 91 gas, proper details and 4 new transmissions.

Installed the Melbourne red hood vent surrounds to match the MR mirror caps and my red Volks. Topped off my oil. Tightened up a slightly loose valve stem.

Jealous of your twisties. There just aren't enough good ones very close to Tulsa. Just need to carve out a few hours and head east some morning...

I'm not sure. I read somewhere on here that it automatically doesn't let you use Launch Control if you try soo many times in a row?

yeah - the Texas Hill Country is really nice for that. And I don't need a good excuse to eat BBQ! I hope you find some great roads (and a great BBQ joint) near you!

After more than two years of owning the car I finally installed an Akra slip-on exhaust with the carbon fiber tips. Sounds great but not too loud and damn those CF tips are sweet!!!

Yea it is a constant debate on how many times you can launch your car. I guess the car companies are trying to avoid answering this problem. I don't think they have made it clear but I would launch my car as few times as possible, just in case.

Took off the 220's and put the Advan's back on. Replaced my studs & Kic's R40's. Started it yesterday for the first time since early October.

Had this installed last Thursday. Cost me an arm and a leg but all worth it... first legit mod too.
