OK to drive in M mode all day?

I drove with the M button on (D5, power-sport plus, edc-sport, servotronic, MDM on) the whole day today and I love the added throttle sensitivity and the downshifts that come with a little press of the throttle. Is it safe for the car to drive like this indefinitely?

I hope so since I do the same

If it wasn't I doubt the engineers would allow you to do so (e.g., you would be limited like you are with the Launch Control system - which I still haven't been able to try out since there's no safe place to do it around here.)

I hope so as well. Usually I just press the M button in short sessions of spirited driving USUALLY not longer than 10 minutes at a time. But having it on for 3-4 hours really put a smile on my face.

Oh man...prepare to spend a lot of money to replace the entire engine, transmission, and suspension.

Why not? It's just different shifting speeds, throttle response and traction control settings (the last you would hardly even use or notice in street driving)

No No..OP all day M engagement will cause the top section of the roof to pop off and the ejector seat to be engaged.

Your NUTS to drive in MDM on the road all the time. (Power mode, suspension, steering sure!)

MDM WILL throw you off the road in a heart beat, marvelous when you want it, wet roundabout, no one around :-) but really bad on a slippery day with traffic!

I have done a bit of track time, and yes you can drift the car in MDM and it will gently catch you (super cool) ONLY if you catch it too.

But you have learn with DSC off first....and yes I have spun off on a number occasions on track in MDM mode!

Be very careful of MDM.

Side note: the little fan on the electronics in the boot goes crazy after MDM mode, on track, sound just like a PC booting up...guess it must be doing plenty of calcs...

Seriously?? I sometimes question the intelligence of m3 owners. Next up we'll have something like "is ok to drive with one hand?"

Yea, it is ok if you always have M mode activated. I also really doubt the M3 will get faster wear and tear with M mode.

That's what I was thinking. It's his car and to each his own but S5 is all I ever drive in. This DCT shifts so fast and it is so damn fun to control the gears.

When it is raining or still wet I keep the ESC on and I don't drive in M mode then.

Why would you own an M3 and drive it full-time in any D mode??

EDC Normal is actually better than Sport on non-ZCP cars because Normal (and Comfort) are adaptive, whereas Sport is a fixed setting -- but the kicker is that the firmest end of Normal is actually FIRMER than Sport, so Normal can be stiffer when needed and more comfortable when not. On ZCP cars Sport is adaptive too though.

Sport Plus throttle is way too twitchy IMHO, and useless on a track if you ever visit one.

Are you for real? MDM mode doesnt allow your car to slide at all! MDM mode is what the car should have came with in stock setting. I have never been able to get my car to slide in MDM mode ever. Even in the rain.

Ah... my bad. You must have Euro MDM mode. Here in the US, we have US MDM mode. You probably have Euro MDM mode. Those are way different from what Ive been told.

The OP appears to be in socal. So he had US MDM mode and he isnt going to slide off any roads using it.

And what fan are you talking about?

Ive not heard or seen any fan in the "boot"
