Read text messages on iDrive

Can anyones phone display their text messages on the idrive screen? I see the option is there, but doesn't look like my Bold 9000 has the bluetooth service to show it there. Anyone know if I can add the service to my phone?

"Messages" seems to be limited to GoogleMaps locations and I suppose stuff sent by the BMW Assist concierge. At least in the U.S.

I didn't know anyone could get text messages on the iDrive screen. They can already do it in Europe. It hasn't come to the US yet due to safety reasons (read ambulance chasers). Apparently it is coming to the US by the end of 2010. You will only be able to read the text when parked for safety reasons so the system will actually read the messages to you.

It is demonstrated with a blackberry in the following clip but they state it can be used with a phone that supports the latest MAP-bluetooth protocol. Maybe the iPhone 3G doesn't support the latest MAP-bluetooth protocol.

I sprang for the BMW Assist Convenience Plan yesterday (because I like to play with technology). Anyway it was active today and in addition to Google searc, news, weather, stocks, and gas prices I discovered I can send my current location to an email address. The message received by the recipient says who it is from, which car, and where they are in the form of a link to Google Maps. The input of the email address, while the iDrive does support a history, is no different than texting and I found you could do it in motion. Interesting.
