Older generation P Zeros are not as good and the BMW OEM P Zeros just suck.

Were the OEM BMW P Zero any sort of custom compound/bespoke design?

I have the 21" PZ4 on our '18 SQ5 and it is very good in that application. I imagine it would be fairly good for street M3 use as well. Ours has their new noise canceling tech (ie foam insert) and it is a quiet and comfortable tire. Very good handling and grip as well.

Not sure. I don't know enough about the OEM PZero to say.

A quick check on Tire Rack's website indicates " * BMW " which means these are somehow tweaked for the M3. It could be a different tread compound, reinforced blocks, etc.

In other words, it might actually be a slightly better version of the P-Zero that was made to BMW's requirements.
