AlpineMSS Low RPM Catless X-Pipe Misfire/Torque Dip/Bog - RESOLVED
Update:
This issue has now been resolved. Alex says to request a new file and you'll get the latest changes. There seems to be a growing number of cars with this condition, the majority seem to be on Alpine MSS tune from other threads on this topic. Common modifications with this condition: - Bimmerworld Resonated & non-resonated - ESS with and without HFC - Becker Headers/X-Pipe Descriptions of the condition: Quote:

I think most of us with this happening to our cars wouldn't mind paying a little extra to contribute to the development/R&D of a solution. So with enough interest hopefully we can get this done. We are all otherwise happy with our Alpine MSS Tunes and would like to keep using them. Existing Alpine customers Interested / Willing to contribute: 1. tdott 2. bennylagoon 3. Spoff_E90_M3 4. Powashiftin 5. fth001 6. Scharbag 7. strokemycocktus 8. Audioslave686 9. V8Juice 10. nate122 11. dmlf 12. gh0stE92M3 Potential New Customers (with BW or similar xpipe and/or headers) who would be interested if Alpine MSS had a solution, having more interest couldn't hurt: 1. 6ixSpd 2. DJiGGs 3. CurbBender'90 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Once we have a good group of existing Alpine customers with this issue, I can reach out to Alex to get a response. The goal is to show that this is not an isolated issue with one or two cars, and that there is a need for a solution. Logs that I have taken showing the issue using BMW Logger, you can see rpm flattens for a split second then increases evenly after this, while throttle is 100% the whole time and DSC is off. There is no stabbing of the throttle or on/off sequence. Just a gradual roll on, then increased to 100% and kept there. The second arrow shows a dip in AFR ratio at this point. It dips to 0.84 then goes to 1, then works its way down a bit.

Even though I went with the Epic tune and solved this problem, I've offered to continue to assist Alex in finding a fix for the rest of you. I've sent him most of my previous logs and data from when I was running his tune. I am still a paid Alpine customer.
That said, of course I'm not going to send him the Epic tune itself...

I have also been fighting with issues with my Alpine tune. Rattle and clatter when I lug the engine right in the range of this torque dip. Would love to have the tune improved as well.
I am "special" because I have the Dinan ITBs... Regardless, hope that this can get addressed as I am also paid member of the Alpine club and would love to be able to rely on those tunes. Cheers,

I ran RON 98 and RON100 tunes with the same results. It seems 100% related to the x-pipe. Stock xpipe + stock tune = no torque dip ESS xpipe + stock tune/98 tune /100 tune = torque dip tdott You can count me in for the tune update

Glad to see a vendor step up and stand behind their tuning capabilities
If things get worked out, I'll have to grab this xpipe and tune as well.

Posting for future reference when I pickup an xpipe next season.
Have alex's stage 2 with test pipes at the moment, and all is good. Glad to see him step out to help on this issue. |

I have a bw race pipe paired with a corsa and stg 2 alpine tune, no issue that I've noticed but willing to contribute. Have had my tune for a few yrs now, is it possible the tune was changed at some point to cause the issue?
I have run the 91 octane file as well as +93 octane file occasionally with ~97 octane fuel, no issues. Last edited by M43S7RO; 10-22-2020 at 06:23 PM.. |

Are we tying the previously discussed "pinging"/bogging issue, when accelerating in too high a gear from <=2500 rpm to this discussion...seems there are some very similar variables/occurrences.
Anyway...I don't have a forward biased X-pipe...but I have Fabspeed HFC x-pipe, Fabspeed resonated mids, and Dinan back boxes with the Alpine Stg2 93oct (and Karbonius intake FWIW) and would be curious how the new tuning works in relation to what we previously were discussing. -Mark in St. Louis |
