Yes, because of the way the rod bearings look I chose to take the engine out and check the crankshaft. We ended up replacing all the beargins, it was out already so better put all new.

The great thing about this is that it shows that rod bearing wear doesn't necessarily reflect main bearing wear as postulated by some here.

Hey guys, just uploaded the video as promised

Hearing it I noticed that my sound is more like a "clek clek" than a tiking, don't know if I made myself clear but check out the video guys, do you think everything is normal? Can we compare to one of your cars? As the engine heats the sound lowers, but still can hear it. Thank you for you attention

That doesn't sound good my friend. That is not the intermittent clack many folks here have....that is totally rpm dependant and sounds like it is in the valve train. Did they check your springs during the rebuild? It sounds similar to a broken valve spring....but i have never heard it in an s65 so take that with a grain of salt. I wouldn't drive the car if I were you.

Yes Doc, that's what is scaring me, the noise increases depending on the rpm. We checked everything but we'll have to open it again, unfortunatly. Thank's for the input Doc.

Hey guys,

Just to keep you all updated, today I got to listen to the noise more carefully and it's for sure coming from the cylinder heads, more precise the right one. Tomorrow I'm taking the valve cover out to see what's going on. I'm just happy that the noise isn't coming from the bottom, more precise the rods

Hopefully its just a broken valve spring and can be replaced without having to tear to deep... I have heard of several broken valve springs on here so its not uncommon, but def does not happen frequently...

Hey guys,

So yesterday I took off the valve cover to see what was going on there. The only thing that I noticed are these springs on the front of the gears. One of them is totally free, and the other one is almost out of position also. Looking on the BMW worshop I see that these springs had a black cover on them, but mine doesn't. Maybe I found the reason for the noise because it seemed to come from the front of the engine. Anyone know what these springs are for and how do I attatch them?

His entire engine was dismantled. They're also known to break off. Rare problem, but it happens.

Just talked to the mechanics that did the job, they didn't put it back because they were broken. Anyone know if I can get it separately or only with the gears?

I know this doesn't answer your question but I hope you go after those mechanics. That's ridiculous to let you drive the car like that. Hope someone can help, I've got no idea.

I really hope your mechanics are responsible for your repair costs...

Did they not inform you about it? If so, I would find another mechanic immediately.

They didn't say a thing about it, and when I showed them the noise they said everything seemed normal, it's hard to find a good mechanic around here. I did all my M52 myself and never had an issue, I will start to do this with the S65 too. On another topic, I will take the oportunity to paint the valve covers because the original color is almost coming off, any tips? Anyone know of what the valve covers are made? Aluminum or Magnesium? On the topic of the beargins, everything is ok for now (BE+OEM bolts), I found some guys that will do the oil analysis for me and when I have the results I will post here.
