I need a new differential for my manual E92 M3

So i slammed my car on its nuts and bottomed out on my diff, the thing is done for. I need a new one, but i don’t wanna give BMW 3000 dollars! Does anyone know where i can get a cheaper one that’s either New or built? Also i might as well get an upgrade if i need a new one anyways. I plan on supercharging the car eventually. But i don’t want to spend more than 2500 on a diff.

I’d definitely go with diffsonline but they require a core. Last I checked core charge was $1500. I picked up a low mileage DCT diff (FD is different for DCT and MT) from a junkyard a while ago for $500 and had diffsonline build a 3.62 FD diff. Their prices, without core charge, range from $1650 for a stock M var diff with stock 3.15 FD to $7249 for their custom diff carrier with a 3.62 FD. 3.45 FD may be more expensive because it’s a limited BMW M Motorsport part.

diffs online, when you check the price of buying a diff from them vs used it makes no sense to go used.

Would it ever make sense to get a new diff? What is the downside of a used one?

Dan from diffsonline sells a e9x m3 manual diff for $1599 which is a rebuilt basically new diff in a clean brand new looking differential housing. Why would you buy a differential on it with a claimed 80k miles for $1200 when a zero mile diff is available for $400 more.

Because Diffsonline.com has a core charge of 1500 dollars and the OP has a damaged diff that cannot be used for a core return. So for him, Diffsonline would cost him 3000+ dollars total.

No you have misunderstood. OP has a damaged diff that cannot be traded in as a core.

IMO he should contact dan with pictures of the damage to his diff and go for there. Its pointless to put in an atleast 11 year old variable diff.

Because he is not smart. If he was he wouldn't be driving a car "on its nuts" and destroying diffs. Soon he will be back looking for a used motor after he goes SC. 20 something year olds love to fuck around then find out

A new diff from BMW is around $3400 so a newly rebuilt M Var diff from diffsonline with core charge is cheaper than a new one from BMW.

I’m shocked by the price of used 70-110k mile diffs! $1500-1800! I paid $500 for a diff with < 10k miles on it a decade ago. Supply and demand…I have a spare M Var diff with < 5k miles on it.

If a used diff is $1.8k might as well get an OS Giken for $2k.

Excuse my ignorance but how does one slam their M3 on its nuts? Wheels fell off? Using it as an ATV?

I have the guts of a 6sp diff from my race car which I swapped in Drexler.
Feel free to PM if you're interested...
