If something that trivial makes you sad, you must be on 24/7 suicide watch.

Not true, I bought a new 2004 E46 back then and was still getting thumbs up even after 3 years from the launch date.

Got another, E46 owner came up to me as I was pulling out of a parking lot today just to compliment my car and then point out his E46.

I was driving home from work yesterday and while waiting to make a left turn at a stop light a guy driving a nice looking red 318TI in the straight lane beside me stopped rolled down his window and gave me a thumbs up.

same here, people seem to really appreciate the car...just got a "very nice...nice car man" on the way to work today by a driver in a beautiful white 997 GT3. At times, e46 or reg 3series drivers, all very cool by the way, will speed up and pull next to me for a few questions on how i like the car, etc, etc.

I get lots of looks and thumbs up living in rural East Texas. The jerez Black when clean is just oustanding looking. Both at night and daytime. Most people don't really know hwat the car is. Most just say it looks mean or fast. Even had a new silver z06 follow me to take a look. Every Mustang wants to race it seems as do the new SRT8 Chargers. Only once did I bite and the SRT8 is still wondering why his car is so slow.

I've noticed a lot of guys in my area driving regular current gen 3 series, and they usually try to fly by me, or cut me off, or drive like idiots to keep ahead of me. Doesn't make sense to me. They also don't make eye contact with me when I'm next to them. Have gotten some good comments from people in other cars though.

Coming out of a 911 turbo, I got used to comments at gas stations, red lights etc.... I have yet to have anyone say anything, other than a girl said "nice car" at a McD's drive-through.

It's weird I think the V8's are more aware of the M3 because of the engine size. Every Mustang and SRT whatever stop to take a look.
I think the car looks amazing on the road. The curves and wide track make it look like it has brute strength. I love seeing my car on the road, then I remind myself ... hey I have one of those. Haha.

Two days in a row and two stories. Tonight I was out eating with my family. While waiting for my food I realized it was my mom's b'day and decided to call her before I forgot (huge no-no). Because it was so loud in the restaurant I walked outside to make the call. I walk out and there are three guys looking at my M3. Looking in through the window and just admiring the shape. When I finished my phone call, I walked over to them and asked if they wanted to see inside. So I showed them the interior and lifted the hood, while telling them about the car. One of them said, it looked like an Aston Martin. That may be a stretch, but whatever.
Anyhow, it was cool to share the fun with some folks.

One of my friends was looking at the car in person and said the same thing. I immediately dismissed it, but is interesting to hear you mention that.

Today I got a "Dude, that car is ****ing sick! Nice car!" from some guy in a convertible E46 style M3 who stopped next to me, blocking traffic in his lane for a moment. And I get looks all the time.

If you're in a public parking lot or something and showing your friends it's guaranteed to pull in a few extra on lookers. It's funny when you're walking back to your car and you can see people from a distance looking at it. They get all confused and have to look at the boot to see what kind of car it is.
