Need Help w/ Trade-in Value for '08 E90 M3

I'd like to order a new F80 M3 and trade in my '08 E90 M3. The dealer has agreed to take $2k off MSRP, which isn't ideal, but I can stomach it. He claims he can't go higher than $25k for the trade-in value of my E90, he said they're going at auction for low to mid twenties; Blue Book has my car at $30k (trade-in value), but this may not be an accurate representation of the market. I'm completely out of the loop, I'd love to get an idea of what you guys would expect for my car in trade-in value. I realize I'd do better on the private market, but I'd rather not deal with the hassle. The details are as follows:

'08 E90 M3
38,500 miles
Jerez Black
DCT
Tech package
Premium package
Leather (not extended)
19" wheels
Park Distance
The car needs two new tires, otherwise it's in excellent condition.

I'd really appreciate any input, thanks in advance.

Dear OP,

My estimate is that our cars are trading in at 27k. Looking at your deal: The guy wants to give you 25k and you want 30k. The realistic trade in is about 27 or 28k.

The 2k off the MSRP from the F80 M3 you are looking at is the real concern, forget about the trade in. Is the F80 a 2015 or 2016? I would wait about 4 months, wait for the 2016 to come around, your car will still get 27k and you will more justifiably pay 2k below MSRP for the 2016. If in a couple of months the 2015s are still around and the 2016 are out, then you can also get a pretty good deal on the 2015.

I would strike a deal with 3k below sticker for the 2015, especially if it is already on the lot, and a trade in at 27.5k. The guy will still make a good margin and sell your car without any problem. The situation looks like he can tell you are eager to get into the new car and wants to make another 3k on your eagerness. The E90 M3 will sell so easy on the lot! You have the upper hand, in my mind.

This is very helpful, much appreciated.

It's a '15 order from their allocation (not on the lot). You're right, I'm not doing myself any favors by my eagerness to get this done. In fairness he did tell me to spend the weekend going to other dealers to get a better idea of the market for my car. I'll take your advice and try to strike a deal at the levels you indicated, either with this dealership or one nearby.

Try to sell it privately as well...trust me many buyers are looking for mint condition e90 M3 and I bet you can easily get 27k out of it.

I think you could get 30-32k privately for a clean car. Especially for the low miles you have.

$25k for dealer trade in sounds about right. Its low mileage but still a 7+ year old car.

You can likely get more money out of it selling private party but most people (myself included) dont want to go through the hassle of that. There is also a sales tax benefit to a trade-in, at least in Florida.

Dealer's offer seems normal like others say but you can easily get high 20's for your car.

It also depends if you have a 2nd car to drive around if you sell your E90 before buying the new car.

You should be able to get a much better discount on the 15 M3's. Check the F80 M3 forum pricing threads.

I paid $33k privately for my 2008 E90 6mt with 28k mi and basically no options but then again I might be in the most expensive part of the country. Low mileage 4 door is hard to find and there were only 6000 of them in NA to begin with. Don't let the dealer take advantage.

Just to give you an idea bc we had similar situations.. When I was looking for a newer bmw last summer in July I got 30k trade in value for my 08 e90 m3 it had just under 30k but was pretty base m3 not as loaded as yours with out any negotiations.. It was in great condition as well.. I still didn't trade it in so with that being said I wouldn't go under 30k for yours not even 29.5k.. These dealers try to low ball the shit out of you don't listen to his bs just stay firm and don't be eager.. Like the guys said here your e90 will sell no problem..
