Why are there over a million battered women in this country?

Because they don't f*cking listen.

Seriously, if you need help in convincing the bosslady on mods, just lie. An example:

Come home at the end of the day and say "Well that's just great."

"What?" she says.

"I backed into a parking curb this afternoon and ruined my muffler."

If she is curious enough to look at it, tell her the damage is on the incoming pipes. She won't know what she's looking at.

Then proceed to complain about the replacement cost versus the insurance deductible, and voila, you get a Remus replacement.

Same with wheels. "Oh yeah, was forced into a major pothole by some idiot truck driver. Dealer says my wheels have two internal necro fractures in the number 2 sylvan fissure. Complete replacement. Insurance won't cover because wheel replacement is analogous to elective surgery. Bastards. And our deductible is $5,000."

For the RDSport RS 46 swap, you're gonna need some help. A little ether, some duct tape, class II handheld taser, Eminem's Superman on the hi-fi.

And a lawyer.

The story sounds great...to you. It's neatly packaged, contains facts/figures and has an emotional appeal, it all makes sense. At least it makes sense until you slip in the price tag, that's where things go sideways. Even in your uber-confident mood the price feels a little crazy, when you listen to your own words. So my questions is:
-How do you sell the unsensible? Who has had success here and what did it take?
-Lastly, for s#*ts and giggles, who has had a massive failure here (much to be learned from failure…and much to laugh at)

It's your money you're spending right? Then be a f*cking man and do what you want. You go to work everyday for what? So your wife can treat you like a little boy when you want to spend some of your money?

Better intake, exhaust and ECU flash (plus all the parts that save weight) all equal to better fuel economy.....right? If she's a tree hugger, buy her a razor and try to convince her of the "Green" aspect of modifications.

EPIC Thread in the making... LOL

I think it all starts from when you first start dating. Many guys set a precedence by allowing her to have a say in your financial decisions when ou're just dating... Why?

My wife and I share our bank accounts, the income is shared regardless of who makes more that year. That still doesn't mean she has a complete say in every expense I make. Unless you've been proven to be financially irresponsible, you should never allow yourself in a corner having to justify your financial decisions. Of course, if you're an F-up when it comes to money, then you deserve to have gf/ wife in your business (handling your sh!t).

I've never met a girl/ woman that complained about me getting something when receiving a nice gift themselves. So, in order to avoid any arguments, just tack on 50% to any mod you decide to do and go buy her something equal to that.

Happily married for almost 4 years and wife the same woman for almost 8 years.

PS. How much just to rent your wife... Mine has a 6 month belly right now. LOL

I got the opposite problem, I have a boyfriend (yeah, both guys) who's got a 630+ HP supercharged Corvette Z06. Conversations go like:

Me: "Hey, I was just reading about this new intake, it-"

Him: "You should get it, right now."
--
Me: "I was looking at a new exhaust, I like what I've got but I was-"

Him: "Oh yeah, definitely, you need that. Buy it."
--
Me: "..."

Him: "You need forced induction."

Me: "I didn't even say anything! And nobody makes it yet!"

Him: "You need it anyway."
--

Could be worse I guess.

FOOL! You can't get anything right! Here's how it really went...

You: What will it take to make my fancy-shmansy German car go as fast as your corvette?

Me: I dunno, a jet pack? I mean seriously!

You: How about this $2400 air intake?

Me: Go to driving school, sucka!

------ Update -----

Me: Some little spring thingy just popped off my clutch return pedal but as far as I can tell nothing is any different.

You: Ha ha, you own a Chevy!

"...Third (if she still won't agree with you), tell her that it is cheaper and safer than having some bad vice like extra marital relationship or tobacco sex. That you deserved to be rewarded.[/QUOTE]..."

^^
Good advice but now I am curious about "tobacco sex". To hell with the mods, how much will that cost?

Because several have asked, here are the stats:

She's high milage but, most organs are in good shape (might be worth parting out). We can talk trades, rental, lease, rent-to-own, lay away....I am flexible. Just be good to her and bring her home before sun up, the kids will miss her and I need my breakfast.

My experience exactly. I spent a lot of money modding my last car, and none so far on this one. I like it just the way it is, and other than perhaps track wheels and tires it will (hopefully) stay this way. It is the first mod that gets you hooked.

Now this I will save for future reference, all plausible and actionable. The ether duct tape thing will be a last resort but...that will be for the "final mod"...turning the M3 into a next generation 911GT. Gonna double check her life insurance policy, now that I think of it.

This quote begs a thread on "gateway mods". Which one got you hooked?

You could do what Chris Brown did and beat her if she says no. haha j.k

Just ask her simple as that. She says no then no is no. We are in recession right now you think buying anything is worth it right now?(a question she might hit you with). Think about her replies and think about damn good rebuttals!

So long as there is no financial drain on the household then I don't see why it would be a problem. Would she prefer for you to gamble or drink, we all have our vices some are just worse than others. There is however the flip side to that coin, if your life goes sideways and as a unit you both hit a financial speedbump then those mods you bought will come bearing down on you like a 2 ton brick.

It was CSL wheels on my e46 M3 and the BBS rs-gts on my 335. With the 335 I was gone once I did the M-tech kit and Vishnu tuning and KW coilovers.

My wife is spending 6 weeks in Florence this spring. This is payback for my car addiction, though no words have been spoken to that effect. I think I could convince my wife of any new BMW purchase as long as European delivery was part of the equation.
