Something smaller, cheaper, but still engaging to drive. GTI maybe? I've owned several over the years. They even come with a proper spare tire and a dipstick!.

It's the best BMW I've ever owned, and I've had a handful.
Only regret is buying it the second it came out VS waiting for 09 iDrive.

First bimmer, first V8 and first M3 I've owned, for the purposes of why I bought it I love it and couldn't be happier. Only regret is exhaust note (did think about a C63 prior to the purchase) but that can be resolved to some extent by opening the wallet.

I do regret making the payment sometimes... especially in the winter. I live in VT and so right now I'm winding down the last few weeks of being able to get the M out on the street. Same complaints as others... I have a boring commute, I'm always driving a fast car slow etc, but then there are the days you get a chance to open it up on a twisty in the fall in VT and there's nothing like it. I have a Passat 1.8t wagon that I'll be using this winter and I'll be pining for the days I get to bust out the M again.
I do empathize with the folks who don't like worrying about their car. I feel that way all the time. I was parked this weekend in a no-so-great neighborhood that my friend lives in and actually woke in the middle of the night just to make sure my car was okay outside... Not so much worried about it getting stolen, more vandalized. People get weird sometimes when they see something they want, but think they'll never have... I make sure to park next to nice cars in parking lots in hopes that they don't want to dent their car just like me. I fold my mirrors in always. Anyway, There are days I think to myself "Do I really need all of this car?" I begin to regret it... but then I remind myself that I enjoy driving. I love it in fact and I could get cancer tomorrow or worse and I think to myself... "Why not?" Don't I deserve to be happy if I can afford it and it makes me smile when I put my right foot down? I stand in mt garage sometimes and just stare at this car... I'll sit in the driver's seat and just take it in and think about where I'm going to drive it when the weather gets nicer. It's beautiful. It sounds amazing. It looks like it's doing 100mph just standing still. I could certainly get by with a much lesser car and have something more practical, but I won't be standing in the garage staring at it unless it inspires me. Life is short. As long as you're not hurting anyone, I say go for it... |

Same reasons why I sold mine. I just couldn't use it as DD, and I didn't like it at the track.
