Anyone buy M3 and later regret it?

hi all,

just curious, if anyone here bought or you know if someone who bought an E9X M3, but later regretted buying it due to cost (gas, insurance, maintenance, lost job, started a family, etc) and perhaps due to getting too much attention, being over protective, starting getting bad luck lol, not practical, etc?)

And eventually ended up selling it and getting a more reliable and low cost/maintenance Japanese or American car, or just stuck with their DD and called it quits on the M3?

I guess I might be asking the wrong crowd here because most people here will have an M or bimmer, but thought I pop the question anyways. Thanks for your input.

there were a couple people here that have sold their M3 because of expanding families or the car just wasn't for them. No harm in that except your pockets being a lot lighter. Buy the car that's right for you

Regret, not really...do I sometimes I wish I had something that wasn't my baby or something that I could take on a ski trip and not worry about smelly boots in my trunk, or park wherever I want...or not cringe over potholes, sometimes less flashy...sure I do.

Those times would be:
1. When driving around the office parking lot, or to my in-laws house.
2. harsh weather
3. blacked out, lifted Jeep Rubicon drives by.
4. driving around down town DC trying to find street parking.

The M3 is great, but it will put a hole in your pocket, I'm already thinking about dropping 2800 on GTS wheels and tires.

This is self-inflicted. Its when people start throwing money into mods and what not where things go nuts. Leave it stock and then simply worry about gas and insurance.

i have my moments similar to what Nine had mentioned. There's times where I just want to have a car I don't have to worry about it, and/or I get fed up with the constant attention it brings. But then, as cheesy as it sounds, I get behind the wheel and realize that it's all worth it. Needless to say I'm currently in the market for a super beater minivan/truck for gettin down n dirty

I don't want to go into any more detail, but it comes down to the name recognition and household association that people think with 'BMW M3.'

Don't regret the M3 but did regret the car that I got first (2011 Mustang GT) instead of the M3 for all the reasons above. I figured it had most of the performance (certainly in a straight line) as an M3 but was less flashy, less worry, pretty much bullet proof over potholes, less expensive and wouldn't worry me when parked outside every night. But it turns out it just didn't do it for me. Took a hit on trading it in on a 2011 M3 after only 2 months. The M3 is the car I should have gotten in the first place and I have no regrets owning it. And btw, it is my DD, winter car and jack of all trades vehicle. I have another car that is the real weekend, special night out and track car and that one gets the garage.

A stock M3 is not flashy. 99.9% of the population just see a BMW 3 series.

Very true! Since I got rid of my E46 I have regretted it - that's why I'm picking up an E92 in Munich on 11/17!!!

+1.
From owning E36M3 (miss), E46M3 (miss) an E92 335i (bought new and own only 10 months and got rid of it. I do not miss at all) and as a current E90M3 owner:
I have no regret especially with usable backseats and EDC.
My a few complain of previous M3s were back seat (some fam and friends visit) and stiff suspensions (for weekday commute). And I do not have those issue any more.

Nothing all that glamorous - a 2006 911 C2S. Re-reading my message, it sounds like I was hinting that I had something super-exotic like a Veyron which I didn't mean to imply (I was actually trying to stick to the topic of M3s). But anyway, the P car is a bit less practical, a bit more noticeable and came first so it gets to be the "fun car" while the M3 plays the more everyday role - also= I have a set of snows for the M3. Both are really great cars.

I did the same thing with a 2011 Grand Sport Vette. I had it for seven months and while it was a very nice car, I missed the feel, fit and finish of my previous BMW's and Porsches. In addition, I just got so bored with driving my 4Runner as a DD (bought it originally to haul the dog, bad weather, Home Depot trips, etc) and leaving the Grand Sport in the garage (put just 2k miles on it in 7 months). My E92 with DCT is "the perfect" DD as far as I am concerned. I should have test drove a DCT before I ordered the Grand Sport. Not one single regret here!! I love this car.

I have had I think some of the worst luck, having not been in more than two accidents in my life, my baby got hit 3x in 6 weeks, twice with me not even in the car, all during the 3rd to 4th month of ownership.

Still not getting rid of her, even of she kills me

Cheers,

The only other car I thought I could have bought instead is the GTR. I dont regret it that much though because I was already over my budget a bit with the M3, and couldn't get the GTR. Other than that, I love the M3 and don't think of other cars anymore!
