That's the SHO. My wife works at Ford and gets this for $390 on the MR lease deal inc ins. Arrives in 2 weeks. Nice compliment to my manual 135i!

The SHO, which is a bigger and heavier car matches almost every performance category of the 535i. It gets 2 MPG worse fuel mileage and the brakes, which stop 6 feet longer from 70 MPH fade a bit (something a BBK would easily fix). The 535i has a .89 in the skid pad v.s. .84 for the SHO.

Compare the SHO to the $89K 750iL and the SHO is exactly as fast from 0-60 (5.2), 0-100 (12.8), and the 1/4 mile (13.7 sec @103). Granted the 7 Series is a larger car, but they are both in the same size class. The 7 is 13 cubic feet larger inside and 6 cubic feet smaller in the trunk. The 7 series weighs 4,760 pounds v.s. 4346 for the SHO. Both got 16 MPG during testing. The skid pad numbers for the two: 750iL .82; SHO .84. The 750 costs $50K more base price than the SHO. I'd bet the average consumer couldn't tell the two apart from driving them.

Ha, did anyone see the pic in car and driver that had a new SHO next to the original SHO? The new one looks like it's 2 feet taller.

My buddy in high school had a '92 SHO hand me down, it was a damn fast car for it's day, that's for sure. Hell, even in 2000 it was a fast car, that's back when the 260hp mustang was fast as hell.

The ecoboost 6 is going to be a nice engine for a Fusion AWD or a base or perhaps mid level mustang. I'd put money down that you will see this in the Mustang for 2011 or 2012.

Is this a legitimate post? I can maybe see comparing the 5 to the SHO (not really, luxury car vs souped up family car) but to compare a 750Li to an SHO is ridiculous. "I'd bet the average consumer couldn't tell the two apart from driving them"...have you ever been in or driven a 7? The 7 is obscenely luxurious and has no aspirations of being a sporty car in any way, shape or form. The fact that they perform similarly should be additional points in favor of the 7 just for the fact that the 7's purpose is to coddle it's occupants, not to deliver a sporty ride.

My dad had an '02 745Li that he sold in '06 for an S500 and, from talking to him on the phone, he's about to trade that in for an '10 750Li. I haven't driven the new 7 but I drove the '02 plenty of times when I went home...there's no way anyone in their right mind "couldn't tell the two apart from driving them".

Sorry, every BMW is supposed to be a "sporty car". Did you everr see the X5 commercial with 5 people in it driving the Ring? Why did they just release the X5M and X6M? Not sure why BMW put so much tech in the suspension of the 7 if they didn't intend it to be sporty. Why is BMW putting a twin turbo V-8 in every 4,000 + lb car it builds if it doesn't pertend to be a sporty car. The fact that Ford can make a $38K car perform as good or better than a $50K 5 Series let alone a 750 says a lot about Ford.

I can make anything perform better than anything. It doesn't mean anything, Ford has to try a lot harder. Market research will tell you that consumers dont react well to mass market badges stuck on cars that cost above $30,000.

Do you think that tech in the suspension of the 7 is to help it achieve a sporty ride or to isolate occupants from even the harshest of road conditions? My bet is the latter. Do you think the twin turbo V8 in the 7 is to help it achieve sports car acceleration or to help provide it with the ability to pass Captain Planet in his Prius driving 55 in the left lane without having to floor it? Again, my bet is the latter.

I don't think Ford was aiming for BMW. I think the Ford Taurus SHO is to be Ford's "Halo" car for the Taurus line. As for the car itself, it's reasonably quick, gets better mileage than most cars with similar power, and I think it looks fine. Horsepower sells. big horsepower + good mileage is even better.

Then why does the suspension have two levels of "sport" mode? According to you it should have two levels of coddling and isolation. With 400 HP I guess he can pass Captian Planet, maybe even with 300 HP?

A marketing scam IMHO. Ford is treating this as something they thought of and beat people to the punch. EcoBoost is nothing but turbocharging and DI which GM and BMW beat Ford to.

It should have been called what Ford originally called it in concept, Twin Force.

Did anyone realize that the name is kinda cool? Ford Sho (for show!!). I'm starting to like a few cars that American automakers are pumping out.

Wow, 111+ mph trap speed is pretty impressive for the MKS. Even though some are saying the concept of turbocharging and DI is nothing new, it looks like this engine has some potential. Drop it in the Mustang, up the boost, and call it a day.

No way in hell it traps 111 stock. They straight screwed that up. Notice they never show an ET or trap speed. I bet it's just the same as the Taurus, high 13s at about 103-105.

They list 13.9 sec @ 111 mph but you're right, it does seem a bit suspect. The ET doesn't really correspond with the high trap speed.

I think it might be a great car by Ford but they put it in a bad price bracket. Starting just under $40k is competing with what people consider luxury cars. While it might be really nice inside it will still be tough to break that perception of Taurus being a generic rental car.
If they're not trying to compete in the luxury market and they're trying to compete in the young, sporty category then they're $8-10k too high. They're competing against cars like the STi or Evo X which can be had for around $30k. Those are more purpose built when it comes to handling and braking and the horsepower numbers are a $500 tune and $500 exhaust away.

I'm sure the SHO is meant to be a limited edition but I think by pricing that way that just made the market too small.
