GTR vs M3. Any reasons to not get a GTR?

The GT-R chews up and spits out the M3.
The only problems with it are: the ever changing warranty coverage and fit and finish.
It is a fine DD. And if you live in a wet or wintery place the all wheel drive makes it much better than the M3.

Nissan calls the GT-R a high performance sports car, and talks about maximized performance and driving ability.
Then goes on to say, you can't do any of those things without voiding your warranty.

Passed when the car first came out (had a chance to get one of the first 6 at a local dealer here in the LA area....at MSRP too since my close friend is related to the dealer's owner) and would pass now too.

They've jacked UP the prices, but LOWERED your ability to use the car as intended.

Something that fragile should be hung on the wall.

You're half-way right.--------> BUT I still have a valid point. I used to have an Evo IX MR and it's a similar concept when you compare it with the GT-R. Of course the GT-R is faster, but it still comes from an ECONOMY brand, NISSAN. I bet you will eventually see and feel it's roots, if not right away.

And it is 100% ACCURATE that the current M3 is one of the most well-balanced performance car today (especially the Sedan).....Even more than the GT-R. And even YOU can't deny that.

Also, I have test driven the M3 a total of 4 times so far. And my 2009 E90 M3 is about 3 weeks away from completing its delivery to me. Yes, I haven't lived with my M3 day to day......But once it arrives, there will rarely be a day where I won't drive it.

And to the OP:

If you wished you would have gone with the DCT in the M3, and you really, really want the GT-R......Then get the GT-R. It's a very special car, and it has shaken up the auto industry much more than the M3.

It isn't that fragile and it is a high performance sports car.
It will waste an M3 without breaking sweat.
The warranty issues have arisen because of a few knobs launching it excessively.
I wish people would stop exaggerating the negatives and minimizing the positives.
The car is a very good DD too.
Now having said that, you can't go wrong with the bimmer either.
Its a better DD if you need real back seats and don't have to drive it in marginal weather.

I found it interesting that the GT-R and E92 M3 returned identical times in SportAuto's wet handling test course. In the dry, it's no contest, as you state.

It doesn't say if you track the car or dyno it that the warranty is void. What it says that is if something breaks WHILE tracking the car or putting it on the dyno that it's not covered. Porsche and BMW warranties say the same thing about the track stuff.

That's just legal mumbo jumbo basically saying that if you drive it on a track or dragstrip and then later something fails they CAN void your warranty because you DID drive on a track or dragstrip.
It doesn't say (as you are suggesting) that the failure HAS to occur WHILE at a track or dragstrip.

Based on reports of how Nissan is voiding warranties on the car for any little thing, I'm sure if you asked them if you can take the car to the track and later if something fails will your warranty be intact and they will give you a nice solid NO.

Heck they even tell you, you have to abide by their break in procedure otherwise they could void your warranty.

They could void your warranty if you don't use the same oil they use, the same transmission fluid they use, if you use any kind of fuel or oil additive, and on and on.

I would never buy that car. A car that was supposedly designed for high performance driving and bragged about by the manufacturer for it's times ON A RACETRACK and how it competes with the 911 Turbo, etc.
But you don't dare do any of that, or practice what THEY preach without risk of losing your warranty.


They even tell you that if you have any kind of body damage that you have to take it to a GT-R certified body shop that may be many miles away from your home (at your expense if it means towing) and then tell you that the shop is going to bend you over and fuk you in the arse by charging you a lot more for the service, because they can.

It's bordering on absurd.

It's becoming clear as to why a 911 Turbo is so costly.

It has the performance similar to, or better than a GTR, with the refinement and quality similar to or better than an M3.

No friggin way I'm tying up that kind of dough in 1 vehicle though.

Seems to me that I'll need to sell the wifes Accord, give her the M

& get the GTR. I just wish she had a greater appreciation for what an M3 is.

You should feel fortunate with the M3 coming your way. Keep it for a few years, enjoy the hell out of it, and feel happy you haven't lost the ton of cash I have in depreciation. My car obsession is getting silly. I just dumped my 2008 CLK63 Black to make room for the GT3.

You're going to get all sorts of opinions but only you can decide which is right for you. I've gotta say though, the resentment is strong in this thread. Personally, I'd say go with the GT-R hands down, if you can afford it. It's a hell of a deal especially in comparison to the GT2. With the GT3 it's a matter of personal taste and what you're looking for but the GT-R is far more exclusive. But with any of these cars, you're now in territory where BMW has no contender.

I am fortunate...... And my M3 is coming in about 3 WEEKS!

Don't worry, I expect my obsession for cars to possibly get as bad as yours, or even worst. I look up to someone like you. I'm a car enthusiast, and I'm gonna continue to work my tail off.......And hopefully I can get some good luck throughout my future so that I can get some more cars like yourself. Btw, my dream car right now is the GT3 you just ordered.

No insult intended, but are you saying that the GTR is "far more exclusive" than the GT3? Actually, the GT3 is far more exclusive than the GTR.

yes. The order is in for an October build. I added the dynamic engine mounts at the last moment ($1300 option). I ordered it in race metallic green with black wheels (i know its not what most would have picked). what color is yours?

I love that color. The launch cars for the 997.2 came in a malachite green which I surprisingly liked. I usually prefer Racing Green on British vehicles but that on a GT3 looks good! I got a few years to go but I'm hoping for a Speed Yellow GT3 in the future.
