I drove a 17 Limited with the CVT, roomy and has a stiff unibody but I liked my 06 more.

I'd much rather get a used Evo. Responds much better to mods than WRX/STi's and no ringland failure. I smoked Subies left and right when I had my X GSR.

I hate those cars, hate how they sound, they look cheap as sh*t, they always ride my ass going down the road like they have something to prove...

Got nothing nice to say

Tell your friend to do it...the M3's are out dated, and the value is dropping like a rock...soon we'll have to pay folks to take them off our hands...
The WRX can be faster, cheaper, more stylish and he won't have to change his rod bearings any more with every oil change. While we'll hate to see him go, we'll all smile knowing he left for a superior car!

Its a step down in materials quality, motor, sound, feel, etc. Whats wrong with the M3?

Agreed, it's going to feel like a step-down. Even though it's newer, Subaru interiors were never very high quality.

I guess there's more to a car than its performance numbers, but the WRXs never really did it for me. It's kind of a tired platform, IMO.

The new FA 2.0L motor has good potential. Not susceptible to ringland failures like the older EJ motors. Stg1 tune has huge power gains, but if you want to go stg 2, you will most likely need new turbos.

Interior quality got a boost in the MY15+ but still has a lot of cheap plastic. It's fun to drive but not as fun as the M.

He is open to options in that price range that is sporty and reliable.

I guess it depends if you believe in the vehicle stereotype meme. Sure, the WRX appeals to a younger crowd, but if he enjoys driving it, that's what matters.

Your posts are very well written. I hope you board an overbooked United flight.
Thanks for your well wishes! Funny thing, I did book an overbooked flight the other day, but it was Delta...the gate agent offered $2,000...I turned it down...then the supervisor came and raised it to $9,950...I took it...I know I should've held out for more, but $9,950 can buy a lot of rod bearings...
