I like both. I would have preferred SMG. Love SMG in my E46.

Buy what suits you best. If I were daily driving my M3, I would have purchased a DCT and never regretted it for a second. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of a smooth upshift and a proper heal/toe downshift and my M3 is a third car that is used for pleasure use so I specifically sought out a 6MT. You can't go wrong either way. |

Driving around I've had a couple people already come next to me at a stop light and say something along the lines of "that car sounds sick, I know your loving the dct" I just nod my head and say its a 6sd but thanks for the compliment on my driving skills haha.. That will never get old.

Im pretty sure Im selling my 11 DCT for a 13 6MT. I love DCT and I honestly think its a better transmission for the M3. But as a die hard 6MT guy, I have some issues that after 2 years of ownership, I'm growing really tired of.
I miss doing all the things I cant do in DCT. Like launching the car how I want too, revving between gears, popping the clutch to drift a corner, killing the engine and rolling to my stop (If I come home late and don't want to wake the baby as I roll into my drive way), opening the door to park ( not that I need to, but not being able to is lame). The two things I hate the most about DCT are the taking off from a light. You almost have to take off slow THEN hard to accelerate without it dropping the clutch off 3K. You cant go into neutral without it ALWAYS putting you back into 7TH gear even if you were in 3rd. Then the exhaust note bogs out and you have to downshift back into the gear you were in. Its super lame if you see a buddy and throw a rev only for your exhaust note to bog out the second you put it back into gear. I hate that! I wish they would allow a quick neutral by pulling both paddles and putting you right back in the gear you were in. That would make me happy enough to stay put, but I think I might be jumping DCT ship. That's my 2cents on it.

there are two kinds of DCT drivers. those that put it in D mode every once and awhile to get around town.
and those that NEVER EVER EVER use the transmission if there is a D in the cockpit display. EVER i am the latter |

Being unable to use a clutch kick to put the car into a drift I can see, if thats your thing. Not being able to have the door open to park is a pain. I have never wanted to put the car into neutral while moving to rev the engine, but then I'm not 16 years old. |

OP, don't do it.
I hate the 6MT in my M3, it's difficult to take off smoothly in first, and the 1-2 shift feels jerky and clunky. One of the worst manual transmissions I've ever had, and I've had quite a few in the last 25 years. |

Don't get the manual if you are t skilled enough to drive manual transmission. I say it jokingly, but then again lots of people have never driven an MT in their life.

I can take off perfectly smooth and shift 1-2 just fine. It operates just like any other manual transmission.

Well Senior,
If you hit the gas too hard, your 3k clutch dump. There for you have go easy out of the hole. Clutch kick is indeed what I want. Will I use it 24/7, no. But not having it bothers me. Throwing a rev every once in awhile to a passing friend isn't something only 16yr old do. The fact it goes into 7th no matter what is my bigger issue. You've never parked and opened your door to mske sure your not over the lines? Or drove into a car lift? Prime exames of when you might open your door to quickly peek. Sounds like you are "D" mode driver only. I'm not that guy. No offense. Just saying. Ty.

1-2 shifts are buttery smooth also. Once in a while it is clunky but that's because I get lazy shifting.

Amen to that, but ppl here can't seem to get over that simple fact and a belief there's only one right answer...the only right answer is actually the transmission you didn't get...

DCT might be best option if you are a dedicated tracker, but 6MT is better for everyday driving IMO. Love mine...

It comes down to preference, I'm sure we can all agree to this. I may eventually consider a DCT when I'm 60, but until then, MT is simply more fun. Yes, on the track, DCT is easier to drive. More fun? To each his own. OP, the fact you're questioning this choice means you are not happy with the DCT. Do it do it!

Well... I'm at a loss for words. I just test drove a brand new 2013 6MT that I was about to purchase and I got cold feet!!!
I test drove it twice in two days and was going to buy it today but I just couldn't let go of my 2011 DCT. While manual has many pluses, some of which I mentioned above. I just couldn't do it! Maybe it's because of all my mods made mine look better? Maybe my current jet black color looked better than the brilliant white 6MT even with the mods transferred over? I don't know but down inside I just couldn't sign on the line. I went home in my DCT because after driving the 6mt for almost 45 minutes, I just didn't get the pleasure I was bitching about wanting! Yea i could do all the things i bitched about, but I felt like i was downgrading. I do agree the 6MT is clunky going into 2nd. But I'm sure I would have learned to work around it. It was still fun none the less. I just couldn't do it. Oh well. I give up. Ive tried going back three times to 6MT and couldn't. Even though DCT bothers me at times. DCT for me it is. How's that for full circle? More like three hot laps of confusion!
