You will probably break things if you're not careful, but if the guys at the dealer can do it, so can you.

Thats a really good price, I just went to my BMW dealer today and they quoted my $12/quart. What ripoff compared to your dealer, o well, I shouldn't really argue with them about +$1,35/quart, but just wondered why.
Guys at the dealer break things to 7 out of 10 times too. Ask me how I know.

So what's this DIS Tester? I changed my engine oil and my salesman said, I voided my warranty but when I spoke with the German dealership here they said it does not void my warranty. I have a 2 year unlimited mileage. So I don't know who's telling the truth. The only difference is that the maintenance is kept in record with BMW and it's stamped on the record book. My first oil change on 1200 miles, my tranny fluid wasn't changed as well as my diff. So if anyone know what this DIS Tester is or looks like please chime in. The only thing I could come with up with the definition is DISTRIBUTORLESS IGNITION SYSTEM

Not sure what it stands for, but it's the electonic diagnostic system the dealers use.

I just got a reply from Bavarian Technic.
I asked them this qustion, "Hello, I'm really interested in Enthusiast kit. Will this kit activate the GEAR OIL PUMP for the transmission. I will mainly use this for maintenance purposes. Thanks for your help..." and the reply was, "Thank you for your interest in Bavarian Technic. The tool has the ability to activate and deactivate the solenoid valve for the shiftlock and interlock only." I'm wondering now if this would get the rest of the oil out

There isn't that much oil in the cooler man. If you're doing it early, I wouldn't worry about it. That's exactly what I do. If you wait until 30K miles (that's when BMW does it for free), then you'd want all the oil out. Or change it twice in succession for about $60. Much rather change it once every 15K miles for the same cost.

I'm going to change mine every 2 years, which equates to around 8K miles. Take care.

It's not that I'm worried about it! On my break in it wasn't changed at all and I'm in my 15k miles, just the engine oil and filter! I could care less about the warranty. I'd just go to the German dealership in my town rather than go to where I picked up the car because it's where the dealership deals with all the American orders. The other option is bleeding the line.

I had my oil cooler replaced due to a very small bend, and dealer said hardly any oil came out. It was less than a cup, and they just poured the oil from the old cooler to the new. They didn't even bother to check the fluid level, even at my insistence.

If you're at 15K miles, just once is fine IMO. These trannies do have a fluid filter, so make sure to clean it for sure. Do a search for its location. It's a big bolt next to the cooler pump. Are you sticking with OEM fluid?

I'm going to change my tranny and diff fluid this weekend. The service dept even printed out an instruction for me with all the specs, it's in German but all I needed was the torque specs. I was looking for a manual pump at the local store here then I saw an electric pump with hoses small enough to go inside the tranny and even to the cooler!

You might also find this helpful regarding the "pump activation" question:

Are you talking about the hydraulic oil pump? If so it is different from the MT, its an electric motor! I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to. I'm not worried about it. It's not like I've never worked on cars I mean military vehicles too lol! I just don't like paying mechanics who could do the same stuff I can do. The only difference is that they're certified and most of them do shortcuts too lol....

Sorry Gilbert.......I assumed that you had a M-DCT. The beginning of this thread started with M-DCT questions and discussion. After doing a little more research I see you have a Manual Transmission. The whole process is different.

Again I’m sorry for the misinformation.
Wednesday the graduates walk and summer vacation starts, then I can get back to normal
