Tyre question

Howdy all, I have a 3 series 318d M sport
My tyre sizes in the front differ from the rear. On the front I have 225/45 R17 and in the rear I have 255/40 R17
One of the rears has an issue and I think it would be best to put a new tyre on.
My question is can I put 225/45 R17(as on my front) all round the car without having to change the wheel?
On the tyre pressure sticker inside the door it has 225/45 R17 for front and back.
Thanks in advance.

Why not just replace with the same size? What are your wheels - stock, aftermarket? What are your wheel sizes?

Just because the tyres are cheaper, was interested with the different tyres and wheels the could be fitted to the car.
The only reason I'd have had the same all round was down to money.

It depends on the widths of your wheels, however, it is very likely you can put the 225 in the rear wheel
