They work great to get tailgators to back off.

Euro rear fogs
Yes. Not sure if it is universal, or country-specific.

Here is a link to purchase the switch
This retailer sells the switch for both M3 and non-M3 E90 series (i.e. with front and rear or just rear switch)

The rear fog switch is plug and play. No coding is needed.

No coding necessary
You're right, is was thinking of the alarm system. If I'd looked back at my own post #20 I would have remembered this.

Let's see which vendor will be able to get the Euro fog switch. Tischer doesn't carry it.

I ordered one from Tischer that has both front and rear fog light but then popped out the top static button from the original and swapped it out with top fog light button. It worked perfectly.

I tried that, but couldn't figure out how to "pop out" the buttons. Tips?

When you open the fog light module there are the two lever tab clips that hold the button in place. I took 2 small precision flat head screwdrivers to gently pull them back at the same time and then had my wife push the button out. The only difference between the buttons is that the static button has the exterior plastic piece that prevents it from being pushed in. I hope this helps and I will try to take pics when I get a chance.

I left my front fog switch intact...push it and it does nothing so why not. Easy enough to remember which one is the correct one for the rear fogs!

Some don't like superfluous buttons that look like for front fogs but don't do anything. I wonder if you could hook a relay to it and actually control something, like a radar detector?

I just installed the new switch from Leatherz.
It took 5 minutes and worked like a charm. No front fog button, just the rear one. Have to say, though, the rear fog light isn't that bright... 08 M3 Sparkling Graphite |

Does your lights when on look like mine in post #20? Pretty darn bright, IMO.

Easy way to get someone behind you to fall back: flash the rear foglights. People think they are the brake lights and slow down. It is pretty funny actually. You can achieve a variety of amusing results with this.
