Keep in mind, that's for an R32 (my track car), not an M3. Due to the offset on that car, that was what was required to clear my track wheels and street wheels respectively with a Stoptech ST-40 BBK. Hard to believe that you can clear an ST-40 on the M3 with 17s, but I need a spacer for clearance even for 18s. Definitely not done for "stance" reasons.

they have got to be 5mm and 11mm. you have 14 inch long studs to mount the wheel? more than half your tire would be outside the wheel well.

Thats awesome. Two laps with instructor driving and fatigued already!!

Two more...

If your bleeding your brakes in preparation for the track and the hose on your motive bleeder looks really old, change the hose. Or you can make it RAIN brake fluid! Thankfully I don't really care too much about the paint on my track car so not a big deal.

If you smartly mark your camber plates and tie rods for street and track settings...remember what the marks mean. The camber plate marks are easy to figure out...not so for the tie rod marks.

You guys will get a kick out of this....I left a bottle of Vitamin Water in my cup holder for a whole session (because I was in a rush). Thankfully it was only 1/3 full so it stayed in the cup holder within splashing any liquid in the interior.

Love this thread. Highly useful. Amazing how most of us have ran into a few of these mentioned issues. Just a few things I thought might be helpful. Some have been my own personal mistakes over the years.

1. Wash the car before a track day (If i is really dirty). Couldn't get black tape to stick, and now with magnetic numbers, I had one flew off on the track at Fontana

2. Close faced helmets will decrease your likelyhood of comsuming a lot of dirt if you go off track

3. Alway pit to check you car after going of track (Even if only half of thecar was off), saw a guy lose a wheel 2 months ago here in Vegas after partially venturing off the track(Bearing?).

4. That quarter tank of gas may not last you through a whole session

5. Familiarize yourself with track layout (or check out a you tube video) before trying to run hard on the first session on a new track (Nothing worse that running hard without knowing lines and getting lost on the track)

5. More of a question than advice, I Still don't have the tire solutions for some of us who pretty drive far away for track days. Perfect day driving to Fontana in september fo SV event on mt TDs. Rained like hell halfway through the trip for about 30min(slowest drive of my life, with the hazard light on)

I'd like to avoid a mistake:

I recently bought a 10x10 ez-up canopy...need to anchor it. I was going to use a ratchet strap on each corner to anchor it to whatever set of wheels isn't on the car (either 220Ms or ARC-8s, depending on weather).

Will a wheel at each corner be sufficient for reasonable rainy weather or do I need to find something heavier? What do you guys use?

Yep, that works. I've even anchored 2 wheels without a prob but 4 is safer. And don't pass the ez-up legs through the wheels, I ended up scratching a set that way.

Rain is not a problem, wind is. I remember the side panel causing major issues, if you're not using it things should be easier.

Thanks much! I briefly considered legs through the center of the wheels but decided against it. I care more about the wheels than the $70 ez-up. I'm going to hook the rubber-coated strap hook on a spoke, snug it up and call it a day.

EZ ups should only be raised halfway up so the wind doesnt blow it away and so that you actually get some shade.

Put some folding chairs inside and its perfect.

I was in the first group to go out after the morning tech. I was in such a rush that I forgot to put numbers on and got black flagged. Next time I'm gonna put them on the night before, whether or not everyone stares at me on the road.

silly small thing but i have a tendency to set my gloves on the center arm rest. then when i harness in and put my helmet on i notice that i have knocked them backwards into the rear seat area and cant reach or turn for them and have to undo my harness. annoying more than anything.

I have a similar issue of wanting to put my gloves on the dash, and then not being able to reach them after I've harnessed in.

I have another new one. Left my sunglasses on my roof after I took them off to put my helmet on at the last event. Found them by pit-in, and I think had been run over, but luckily survived once I popped the temple back in. I definitely have to follow my exact routine, or stuff gets f'd up.

rear seat replaced by cage, trunk taken up by jack, paper tape, compressor, gauges etc. Tires were so much easier to pack before the cage. The new Michelin A/S-3 might be my winter solution for out of town track days

Was at the track (NJMP Lightning) Sunday/Monday. On Sunday it was RIDICULOUSLY windy. Left the EZ up at half height and anchored it to a 220M on each corner. It was rock solid. Threw some camping chairs under it and it was great!
