Technically, no. The cats are not CARB approved.
But, in all likelihood, yes, they will pass with a proper tune. Any tune that allows the readiness tests to complete will pass. |

Thanks for the write-up.. car sounds incredible! I'm like you and prefer the higher pitched, exotic tone instead of the deep rumble.

Bro. It's a disservice to this exhaust to have cats....
It sounds like a Wookie being sawed in half by leatherface on Adderall. More people will learn what we already know though. I'm on my 2nd Corsa exhaust now, my 6th exhaust in a year and I have zero regrets. |

I have a X-pipe with no cats or silencers with a Eissemann Race back box and the drone is killing the car for me. Im looking into either fitting two Aero turbine silencers in the X-pipe or look into a new backbox. I see you amricans like this Corsa exhaust but i'm not familiar with them.
Just wondering what you think i should do ? |

Your Eisenmann Race will always drone, even the sport does a little. It's an unfortunate downside of the best sounding exhaust for these cars. Even on a stock midsection it was unbearable to me.
What sucks is that I was 100% thrilled with the sound my car made with Eisenmann on a stock mid-section. If I could have gone catless and somehow kept it the same, I would have. It's just not a good exhaust for a daily/commuter. I'll reconsider when this car is retired from daily duties. |

The AFE was a great exhaust, but it was very typical M3 exhaust - bassy down low and sounded good once you were into it, but the Corsa sounds very unique with just about zero bass. I really liked how different it sounded.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the catted ESS x-pipe is quite pricey....combined with the price of the Corsa exhaust, it comes to about the same price as some of those expensive, valved axle back exhausts.
But I like that you'd also get an x-pipe with high flow cats with this setup.

I'm less than $2,000 into my exhaust system due to a really good deal from Denk on the Corsa, I picked up my Mastermind X-Pipe for like $700 and welded in 4 Vibrant 1792's. You can buy a used Corsa between $900-$1300, then go buy an MS X-Pipe and be done with it, $2,400 max for a great setup. |

Very helpful thread. I want something louder than my OEM mod but don't want a bassy system that drones…Corsa seems to be the perfect one but I'm not sure if it's worth it after having to buy new tips which seems like a must.
The sound in the video is incredible though, never heard that tone before on a e9x system. Very F1 ish and high pitched.

Video Cameras can't even seem to pick up the symphony. Those videos I posted up were as close as I could get honestly. Since those vids, I've gone to a new mid-section with quad Vibrant 1792's and it sounds even better.

Hearing your vid reminded me of the sound of my old catless set up: Akra Slip with MRF catless X. Only difference is there is a lot of "bass" from idle to about 2,400 rpm. Enough to rattle windows of cars next to you.

Both of the Eisenmann exhausts sound great once you are out of that low RPM zone, but I can't stand them (and a lot of other exhausts) that are that bassy down low. |

Like the ESS, the MRF x-pipe moves the x in the X pipe forward - probably what gives it the similar tone. Interestingly, the Akrapovic X pipe has a small crossover at the front but retains the one in the rear and doesn't sound nearly as high pitched as the ESS.

I think the cheapest new valved full exhaust is around $5k. I guess you probably meant a rear section, which you're right would be $3000-$3500 or so. The ESS is about $1800 and the Corsa is $1600 or so from many vendors. You get a significant power gain, although it'd be a good idea to get a tune with the X-pipe if the CEL bothers you. |
