Buying help - 2008 M3 6spd sedan
hey guys - not sure where to put this; i have been in the X5 (2014) section on here but - i might have the ability to buy a low mileage 2008 M3 6spd sedan for roughly $28k.
what should i be looking for with regards to sounds/etc? it has less than 30k miles on it, and outside looks great for a car 11 years old. thoughts? Thanks in advance (i've never owned an M car before) -Gio |

On the surface a car with low mileage won’t show much but there could be things hidden below the surface. It needs to be checked over thorough on a lift and scanned for any previous issues.

seems like alot for a car that has had previous structural damage, but the mileage is good, personally i wouldnt touch one of these cars with structural damage but that’s personal preference,if you really want the car negotiate a couple thousand, you will be buying a damaged m3 that resale wise isnt going to be good.i’ve seen these cars with 30k at 26k damaged just my thought

Yes absolutely i would have someone who knows what this car should feel like drive somewhat spirited,to make sure it feels right,i wouldnt want you to find out the hard way, there are alot of parts that effect this complex vehicle, people usually dont spend all the money they should when dealing with such a car, just my feelings good luck

Cars with accident history go like this.... Anyone selling one, dealer or personal: "It was just a minor accident, everything was fixed to facotry spec and there's no problem, that's why it's priced at retail.....relax man". This is even if the car exploded and flew into a lake. Anyone wanting to buy or take in an accident car on trade: "There's no way we can pay anywhere near retail for this, no one will want it, the history can't be guarnateed". This is the case even if it the car had a minor collision with a shopping cart. Just keep all of that in mind when you break out the checkbook. Good luck.

I’m really unhappy with the latest “structural damage” classification from states & insurance companies. Panel replacement is not structural but they seem to believe it is. Anything more than a bumper is being classified as structural damage.

The car was probably rear ended at one point or another and usually any rear collision will destroy the trunk floor because cars are designed to crumble and absorb the energy. There’s a pretty good chance it was fixed properly but I would honestly avoid the car because low mileage or not the car will still have accident history.

Guys - i'm in agreement with all of you regarding the accident information - what would be a realistic price for this car? $20k? less?

I wouldn't pick it up . Pick up a vehicle after 2011. The Idrive is going to be really outdated . Too many issues with the ca. In addition, if the clutch goes for the car you will have to purchase the flywheel with it . They don't come as one piece . Get 2011 upwards. And you can defiantly find one in that price range

Keep looking. I would rather have a car that has 20k more miles than one that has structural damage. Also you gonna have a hard time selling it because of that damage as most buyers would run away from that.
Theres a lot of cars out there in good condition for that price range...just be patient, the right one will show up. |

I have '08 6 speed manual with original "old" style flywheel and original rod bearings, never had an issue ,90k miles. So stay away from '08 manuals.
