I remember WV did something like that. Changed the Golf to Rabbit for a year and then changed it back to Golf again for some reason.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this. I often read multiple threads but don’t really reply or post opinions. But I was leaving Frankfurt yesterday when I noticed on the cover of a car magazine in a rather small font, "Der neuen BMW coupes." So I opened the mag to the small two page article and since I am not fluent in German took these pics. So here is why I decided to post this. I asked two flight attendants, both of whom are German to translate the little blurb about the 4er coupe. One flight attendant was not interested because it did not involve getting me water, soda or beer. The second flight attendant did translate it for me but I am not sure if I should believe her. She explained what it said and I still wasn't sure so I asked her specifically about the last sentence and she said it means that there will no longer be an M3 but rather the M4. Thats the first I heard of this and was curious. I am sure there has to be someone on here that can give a better translation or answer.

Seems that if you are an M fan you have to carry on like a bloody infant at the slightest sign of change.
BMW M always deliver a great and usually superior package, they never make a car that fails at its initial objective. One could argue that the M division could ask the majority of you for some respect in their decission making and to have a little faith. If the new F3X M3 comes out, you drive it and dislike it, then fair enough. Until then, see the above paragraph.

AutoBild quotes that from the typological logic the F32/35 coupes and the F33 convertible must become the lable M4 ! But nothing is clear about this ... Scott quotes that the cars could stay under the lable M3, but logical correct is only the position from AutoBild! Its also possible that BMW brings an F30 M3 sedan again to fill the gap ... but nobody knows the truth. We have to wait and see! Greets Uli_HH |

Exactly how i feel. If they can make all the Mcars to dominate each segment like they have been, then so be it. People are against the X5M and X6M but hell those beasts defy the laws of physics! M division pulled off the impossible and for that i give them some credit.

At this stage, we don't even know what the regular F30 line will be like in terms of size/weight/driving dynamics. I'm sure that the new M versions will be amazing cars & that they will use whatever powerplant makes the most sense. There haven't been any horrible M-cars from a driving standpoint & I think this is likely to continue to be the case.
The X5M & X6M, although a departure from the traditional M car, are amazing vehicles & compare nicely to the much more expensive Cayenne Turbo. I have an F10 5-series as a loaner & there are several things which I don't like about the driving dynamics of the car (mostly the numb steering) but is decent overall compared to other brands. I doubt that the new M5 will have the same problems (just like how the M cars have stayed with regular tires instead of run flats). |

There is no doubt that the M division is heading down a different path, one that is counter to their original philosophy. Because of this, I too will adjust.
Instead of buying my fourth M, I have decided to keep the E92 as a daily and buy a used GT3 to play with. No hard feelings BMV, Porsche still gets it.

What does BMW have? The M3 is more of a luxury grand tourer than anything listed above, and the M3 GTS is worthless compared to similar priced or even less expensive Porsche products. The 1M project is a decent attempt and had the right ideas, but no one is fooled by the standard issue engine they stuck in it. Those bread and butter money makers give Porsche the capital to offer such Halo products in order to boost the profile and heritage of the brand. Everyone knows Porsche is making a smaller profit margin on cars like the GT3 and GT2 which utilize the much more expensive to produce GT1 based Metzger engine. Yet they do it anyways for the long term benefit it gives Porsche as a brand, strengthening its reputation as a true performance manufacturer. Meanwhile BMW utilizes its bread and butter money makers to do what? Put additional earnings into the bottom line for its investors, rather than re-invest in the brand's image and performance credentials. I suppose this is why BMW no longer claims to offer the "ultimate driving machine" when they now prefer the "efficient dynamics" of maximizing short term profit. |
