Quick and Easy DIY: Hardwire Dash cam using Fuse Tap and Cigarette Lighter Socket
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and first post. My concerns was that the dash cam power plugs was so bulky and I hate opening the cigarette lighter door. Looks so messy! Car is 320i 2010 model Things I bought from local electrical store (Jaycar) - "Mini" Blade Fuse Tap about - about $5 - Dual cigarette lighter socket - about $12 - Extra Mini fuse for Fuse Tap - about $1 - Cable ties Step 1: Identifying the correct fuse to tap in to and prepare the Fuse Tap Open glove box and simply twist to open back door. Per diagram, my accessories fuse is No.8 - 20AMP. Prepare the Fuse Tap and insert the original fuse and new fuse as shown... Step 2: Crimp the Fuse tap and Cigarette socket Crimp the red wires... Step 3: Screw the negative (black cable) to ground You can use the metal screw near the fuse board. Simply unscrew to loosen and wedge the negative cable by tightening the screw back. Step 4: Secure the negative cable Using the cable ties, best to secure the cable to prevent any accidental pull... Step 5: Connect the Fuse Tap to No.8 Connect the Fuse Tap with the cable pointing upwards... Step 6: Neatly seat the socket in front of the fuse board You can neatly secure the cigarette socket in front of the fuse board. Plenty of room. You will notice I also added my dual USB socket to power the passengers phone and drivers phone. This way there are no cables dangling nor any exposed cigarette lighters. |
