BE seems to be the consensus for when they're in Stock.

I went with WPC since BE & VAC were not going to have stock till Jan-Feb 2018

Someone did pull their WPC ones a while ago which didn't have much wear on them at all.

Like Gary says, BE are popular (specially in the US). Went with ACL Race myself. They have OEM clearance as well as increased. Very well priced so spent the money on bolts.

~82k miles, apparently driven year-round
Dealer oil changes for the first 50k, then Shell Helix Ultra Racing 10W-60 at factory intervals after that

Replaced at Bimmerworks. I went with BMW OE everything.

Planning to do BMW TPT 10W-60 with 5k mile intervals and oil analysis at every change to build a trend.

That one deep gouge has to be from a Foreign Object.

Too much oil still on the bearings - not very clear.

I'm thinking the deep gouge happened after they were pulled out. It looks too fresh compared to the surrounding bearing area.

No, the long scratches are from foreign material during use, not removal. Lots of contamination in that engine. For only having 42k miles I'd consider more stringent maintenance tactics and to closely inspect your SC setup and air filter/elbow to make sure debris isn't entering from there. Or it's possible the engine had been opened up at some point for service without much regard for cleanliness... Lots more debris embedded in them than what I would consider normal.

Just purchased my 2011 with 83,xxx and changed the rod bearings a few days after purchase.

Sorry these are not in any order as the shop just threw them in a bag to give back to me. Random scratches are from banging against each other. I don't think that they look bad at all (for S65), certainly not the worst I have seen. New BE bearings with ARP bolts, motor and transmission mounts done.

Wow from the pictures most of them look pretty much untouched after 83k miles! With that crank and proven close to non wear I'd personally be tempted to continue with a lead tin or coated OEM clearance shell.

There’s definitely wear on them, it’s just not clear from those pictures with poor lighting.
Bif if you can, snap a picture of them in daylight and without a flash

Had Mrf do the rod bearing change just recently. Just purchased the car not too long ago and had the bearings done right away.

Car is actually a 2011 not a 2010 that its listed as M3 with 93k

Here is how my rod bearings looked (2012, 50K miles, 7K oil changes, no track, no supercharger, very modest driving):

They were removed and changed by Malek at MRF Engineering. I got his full rod bearing service, plus engine mount replacement (highly recommend to do this at the same time).

I saw visible metal flakes in the oil, which is what prompted me to get the service done.

Looks like the bottom ones had a lot of side cut on the edges of the bearings, as well as a couple gouges, whereas the top had the broader, deeper wear.

And my engine mounts:

These were apparently 12mm collapsed.

I do notice a big difference before and after. Car feels more refined.

Sadly, those look pretty typical (bad) for the mileage. Some look really bad. Good move to get them done.
