In all seriousness, I've very sorry to hear what you're going through. Networking is your best option, seems like the only way to get a decent job these days is by who you know. I've been laid off from law firms twice in the past eight years, and luckily I sort of fell into a remote deal from home which has been going great for the past year. It's a niche job to end all niche jobs however, so believe me when I say I'm saving damned near every penny incase the hammer falls again. This country is very close to slipping back into a recession (officially, while I'd say we never really got out of the last one).

Finally, don't waste the time you have while unemployed. Try to do everything you can to stay productive, none of this sitting in front of the TV everyday, waking up at 11AM, etc. Try to maintain the same routine you did while working, believe me, it will help with your self esteem and your confidence immensely.

Good luck, tens of millions are in the same boat you are. This country is in a jobs depression, and your situation is no fault of your own.

I just hate this place: I was hired in on a friends recommendation and it's been nothing but rocky since I started. The whole culture of the place is toxic and it stems from poor management. Looking at other options now....

What makes the environment toxic and the work miserable (more specifically)? If you have a job that will pay for a chunk of school and provide relevant experience, it would be unfortunate thing to lose. Sometimes situations are so bad you have no choice, but unfortunate nonetheless.

Axiom, you seem to have an interest for mechanical things. If your degree is in general business, why not try to get in with a place, in a field you enjoy. With a business degree, you could eventually be an asset, sales being just one possibility.

Look into manufacturing if you have any interest at all. Lots of job opportunities right now, especially if you don't mind doing some grunt work for a while. If you're willing to work night shift especially, you might just get on even before finishing up your school. And most places in manufacturing are so desperate for quality people right now, that you may even find a placing willing to help out with tuition.

As for what you should do next. . . I recommend you start a new adventure by buying a 335i.

My wife was in a similar situation and jumped ship back in April. For months before she left she would get sick every morning (vomiting ) as the stress and her hate for her job wore her down. GL in your search and if by chance you forgo ASBSECU E93 's offer, come to Miami and we'll chill

Just graduated 2 years ago with my GF. Her thought was your thought and u can ask her how that went lol

Don't, working on it. Plant city isn't even that far of a drive compared to driving an hour tonST Pete. Ugh.

Honestly I will say I really appreciate the support and the advice of everyone here. I don't want to get into name calling/disparaging my employer but it's just not a good fit for me, but I guess I didn't do enough to help the situation. I'm holdingout, but keeping my options open -I'm not too good to do anything.

For the person who asked me why not something in the engineering field: I hate math. Finance was going to be my minor..but ugh.

If you really feel like they're going to show you the door, and you're prepared to leave, why not approach them and try to work out a separation agreement? You can set a date, maybe negotiate some severance and then when the time comes you'll be prepared mentally and emotionally. It's worked for me before, and it makes leaving way less stressful. I was even able to convince my last boss to give me whatever time off for interviews that I needed.

It is all about specialization these days. If you know the recipe for success why not pursue it, especially if you're young. I would recommend looking into getting a degree in accounting, finance, computer science or engineering if you like the business route.

These degrees can open up a lot of opportunity for your future and will increase in demand. Think of it as an investment for your future. GL.

Its not Obama's fault he doesn't like his job...geez. Watch Fox news much?. This country isn't fixed but is far better off now than it was during Bush's last year. Official unemployment figure is now 5.1% vs 8% when GWB left. The Dow Jones saw a low of 7500 in 08, and is now over 16,000. Gas prices were in the high 3's and are now in the low 2's. More people are insured than ever before and the auto industry (which all the republicans predicted would fail with a bail out) is soaring. Look up the amount of wealth that has been built the last few years, it is incredible. If the GOP had Obama's record they'd be gloating like crazy. Don't buy into all the negative propaganda out there.

To the op, very sorry you are losing your job. Use it as a spring board to something better!
