Update no.2

Summary, just did another track day, and no issues with the V3 shaft. Did seven 20 minute sessions in 38C heat. Plus around 700km driving to and from the track.

One improvement Iíve noticed is the top speed down the main straight. Iíve been to this particular track several times in previous years. Prior to installing the V3 shaft, my top speed at the end of the main straight was 190km/hr or so. With the V3 shaft I was consistently hitting 215km/hr. After reviewing my data (AiM Solo 2 DL) my corner exit speed entering the straight was more or less the same prior to the carbon shaft. So I think it is safe to say the data supports the fact the carbon shaft improves acceleration.

There was also another e92 m3 in my run group. There was one session where we went out together, and I noticed I would gain on him coming out of corners. Eventually he gave me a point by and I started to build up gap between our cars mostly coming out of corners. That m3 has better brakes (likely better driver skill) than me. So he would close up the gap entering some corners, but I gained the gap back coming out of it. That was a really fun session.

Pretty sure Michael said he was done with group buys. It's in this thread somewhere. I don't blame him.

After six years of tracking the mfactory CFDS V1 it finally gave up at Lime Rock Park.

This is roughly 6 x 25 trackdays or roughly 150 trackdays give or take.

I bought it in Winter 2017 and that summer was its first year. My car is supercharged but I am mostly on 200tw tires with some usage of the Toyo RR and one time Hoosie R7.

I think it is a testimony to the quality of MFactory product and at the same time that nothing last forever on track car.

A V3 is going in this week and heading to 4 days at Watkins Glen.
.
enjoy the CF soup:

Just order it guys. GBs take a year+ to organize and fulfill for $100 savings. It's not worth the headache

Website link doesn't seem to work. Will PM them here and see. Figured it'd be worth a shot if things got better; it'd be for next year anyways.

Self-locking flange design

At the risk of stirring up the controversy earlier on in this thread, I just came across this article:

https://**************/blogs/the-str...3/mfactorys-v3

I realize this may just be the disgruntled writings of a very unhappy user of the early V3 prototype and the information should be digested accordingly. I sure hope this article is nothing more than dubious conjectures.

So anyway, what's of main interest to me in this article is the claim that the V3 flange design does not have the self-locking design but rather the "glue-plus-pressure-only" design of the V1 version.

Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, it is confirmed that we removed the locking-mechanism on the v3 and went back to a similar (but improved) design as the v1. This has been discussed previously in extensive detail.

I do not want to elaborate on the reasoning yet again as it will inevitably invite all the naysayers into the conversation and open yet another can of worms (which I have managed to avoid over the past year or so). Suffice to say, KISS is our primary reason.

With regards to updates, we are now in the very late stages of final testing on the v3 units and are finally close to releasing these. In order to avoid what happened when we first made the v3 available, we decided to delay them until we've had sufficient time to test these on both street cars and track cars, hence being well over a year since my last update. Around a 1/4 of our back-order list have been testing their units over the past 6-12 months, with the earliest batch from over a year ago having some resonation/vibration issues. For the majority of those, replacing their 10+ year old oem mounts/bushings fixed the issues. We have over the past few months been working with the tube supplier to improve the carbon weave in order to make it less sensitive to the resonance.

Our main priority after these are ready is to fulfil all of the remaining back-orders first. Only once that is done will we start making these available to retail customers.

Wow, interesting. Not working for me either.

Looks like the issue is that the website of "euro con nex dot co" has been banned by this forum. In fact, even the mere mentioning of the company's name, **********, it gets replaced, as you can see, with "************".

I've updated my original post now spelling out the full website address. Just replace the "************" part with "euro con nex dot co" (yes, "co" not "com") and copy-paste. Here's the address again:

Zero interest wanting to read that propaganda/misinformation site. My V3 shaft from Mfactory is still going strong after a year of track/street use.

My struggle with Matt, is heís gone on these singular brand vendettas multiple times and the common denominator appears to be failed business agreements.

He used this platform to build some undeserved clout and tried to leverage our collective buying power solely for his benefit. His group-buys while generally well organized and managed, were a sham. Save 5-10% while he reaps free products and or kickbacks under the guise of community.

Btw my V2 driveshaft has sustained 20k+ super charged track miles.

Not only just that. Often if you contact the vendor directly you can get the product for the same price as his groupbuy price but without the wait and going through him. Someone in the Facebook group proved it. That person contacted yfcm directly and got quoted a drive shaft for the exact same price as Mattís group buy.

Any chance you can share some details what the improvement in the V3 flange design is over the V1 design?

Early impressions of my recent V3 installation

Just installed the V3 and have been driving around for a week now.

My setup:
- 2010 E92 M3 MT w/45000mls
- TCK double adj suspension (firmest settings)
- Ball bearings all around
- SSF bushings
- New stock diff and trx bushings
- 18" rims w/255/35 and 285/35 PS4s

Observations:
- Improved launch control with clearly less wheel hop.
- While driving, there's slightly more whiplash when slamming the pedal.
- Slightly more engine braking when letting off the gas. But if I wasn't expecting this I probably wouldn't have noticed.
- No hint of new resonances or increased NVH (up to 140 mph).
- Wrt acceleration I don't feel any change. My 0-60 times though are improved but I think that's entirely due to the improved launch due to the less wheel hop. But I think if you're a pro at controlling take offs in the MT, which I'm not, then you'll probably not notice anything.

Repair/installation in a driveway w/car on 12" Schwaben wheel stands in all four corners:
- Difficulty level: 6 out of 10
- Time: 3 weeks from beginning to end. 20-24 hrs accumulated.
- Removed exhaust except for the muffler during install.
- Ceramic coated X-pipe.
- Ceramic coated both sides of the [brand new] heat shields.
- The guibo and its six bolts/nuts were all in pretty good condition, but I still replaced them.
- Reused the diff bolts and applied green thread lock.

All in all, I'm happy I made this mod. Nothing was really difficult but it was time consuming for me because I chose to spend extra time in issues such as:
- shielding the CFDS flange ends from heat,
- ensuring proper clearance between the heat shield and the exhaust and to the larger diameter DS and
- accurately torquing the bolts at the trx and diff ends (takes time to get adequate access to bolts on top of the shaft.)

For those who installed their driveshaft, are there any specific measurements to be weary of to avoid weird vibrations? Specifically between the telescopic flange to the rear diff flange. Thanks!

PRODUCT UPDATE
For those wondering what revisions were done to the new batch of v3's (versus the previous batch), we have improved the weaving process in order make the tube more rigid (higher structural integrity). This has improved the balancing of the final assembled driveshaft immensely; so much so that we no longer require an excessive amount of balancing weights just to keep the driveshaft balanced. One of the main complaints with the previous batch was "aesthetics", with us having to bond some weights somewhere around the centre of the tube.

The majority of driveshafts will now only have 1 or 2 balancing weights on the ends of the tube (riveted, not bonded), whereas a limited few won't have any balancing weights required at all. This is how much we've managed to improve the rigidity and balance of the new batch.

SHIPPING UPDATE
Emails have been sent regarding shipping for the new batch of driveshafts that we have finished and are ready to ship. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the delay.

Please check your email (and spam folder) to see if you received an email from us. Due to a large back-order list and limited availability, if we do not hear back from you within 1 week from today, your spot on the list will be offered to the next customer.

For those who have not yet received an email, please rest assured that we are working our hardest to finish off the remainder of the driveshafts, which will be another couple months. There will be enough in the next batch to finally fulfill all remaining back-orders and more.

So with that being said, we will now be re-opening availability for the BMW M3 (MT and DCT) and BMW 1M Carbon Driveshafts, with all NEW orders subject to the new batch shipping in 2-3 months time.

Due to increased material costs AND logistical costs, the new MSRP will be $1699.95 + shipping. However, all forum members who contact us and order via the forum will receive free shipping

Edit: Typo on the price
