1.75 OEM Exhaust MOD
For those who are thinking about buying an expensive performance exhaust to achieve better sound - an oem exhaust mod could be an easy and cheap way - ofcourse if you believe that 420 hp is enough.....
And cabin sound - no drone at all |

The Two pipe i just a bit louder - and my goal was to get as close to the MPE sound signature as possible. And the 1.75 is quite close to that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 2-pipe mode - I know that the drone is NOT present there as well. Do you have the 2-pipe mod, Helmsman ? |

Thanks for the explanation.
Two more questions. Did you put all the hairs back inside the muffer? Did you release from hears small perforated pipes? |

Sorry to resurrect this old thread after so many years. Thank you saxondreng for very helpful information. I believe the sound I'm looking for is something less than 2-pipe mod. I've heard of 1.75 or 1.8 pipe before and it's helpful to see how it's done.
My exhaust specialist recommends to weld in new non-perforated pipes rather than wrap because wrap doesn't hold up over time, especially with backfires. So that might make it challenging to do less than a 2 pipe mod. If I go with 1.5 pipe, I'm wondering if the remaining perfs should be nearest the back or in the middle? The 1.75 MOD suits me just perfect - these MOD has many names. Me and many others prefer to count the MOD per Chamber. Of course the MOD is done in both chambers - and therefore som call the 2-pipe MOD for a 4 Pipe MOD witch is actually the same. Whether you do the Wrap-method or swapping the pipes gets you there - but I recommend you to perforate at least a bit of one of the pipes per chamber - just to ensure that you can live with the result. That little bit of perforation just take the top of the resonance - when daily driving. Acceleration sound is almost the same as the complete 2/4-pipe MOD anyway. |

Thanks for this extra information saxonreng. Some people say a 4 pipe mod is perfect. Others love the 2 pipe. Others enjoy less. I want something mild, therefore I relate to the person who said they found the 2 pipe mod way too loud for a family daily drive. That person changed to 1 pipe - meaning 1/2 the pipe on each side - and love it.
I will settle for something between 1 and 1.5 pipe mod - meaning wrapping or replacing between 50% - 75% of the perfs on each side. I have the luxury of owning a second back section that I bought used. So if I don't like it, I can swap back to stock while I rethink things. Does it matter in what place along the tube the remaining perforations are left? End or middle? |

I guess it's worth noting the cold start is louder which can't be avoided "with the family" unless you get a tune to code out the cold start routine.

What would be really cool would be to have a length of solid pipe that could slide back and forwards to cover or uncover the perforations. If this could be electrically operated, it would be a new version of a valved exhaust! Hahaha

I am a "hate obnoxious loud exhaust" person and have the 2-pipe mod. It is not loud. Not even close. I can't imagine someone saying the 2-pipe is too loud, but I know this is an individual taste.
