I'd call shops and see what they charge.
Thanks! I just wanted some reference points. I called G2 and their quote has gone up much, still waiting for Prova and IS garage.

Hey man, would you mind PMing me some of the quotes you've been getting from seattle area shops? I'm leaning towards IS Garage since he did it before but would be curious to see what quotes you got recently.

IS garage I know does a lot of rod bearing replacements.

as a point of reference, when I spoke with IS garage. he quoted me $2500+ if he provides everything. $1600 if you provide the bearings and bolts.

Hey guys, I work at AR Auto Service. We do a lot of these bearing replacements, typically with Bimmerworld Treated Bearings since that's what we use in our own personal street and race cars with great success over many years across several generations of M3s. We've replaced them with customer supplied bearings, typically BE. At this point I think we've done 22 E9x M3 and probably 100+ E46 M3s, anything from daily drivers to trace cars. If anyone is interested in a more current quote feel free to give us a call or shoot me a PM.

Since when did Bimmerworld treat their own bearings? Last I checked they sell BE Bearings.

Oh, and didn't I buy my MCS dampers from you

PM me a quote for labor please. I already ordered my BE bearings and bolts

I just talked to Shawn at G2 and was quoted $4000+ to replace the rod bearings using VAC bearings and ARP bolts.
AR Auto Service in Lake Oswego quoted $3140 using Bimmerworld bearings.
Ian at IS garage was great to talk to and the most reasonably priced. (see Invictus-Kain's post above)
That's quite a range. I'll be working with Ian at IS Garage.

Yea they have. They also clocked more hours than quoted for the subframe/diff bushing swap I had them do in 2017. Seemed like a pretty straight forward op for a major shop to need 12 hours at $125/hr. While my car was there, somebody at the shop decided to take it upon themselves to pull my oil filter and shine a flashlight to take a exaggerated sparkly photo of the oil draining out of the filter. Then they texted it to me after I got my car back from them, in an attempt to scare me into having them swap my bearings. I wasn't really a fan of their tactics, which seemed odd since they didn't even mention it when I picked up the car. The people I actually talked to seemed nice and professional though.

Yeah they're a nice shop with good people but I think they may be making some business changes that could end up hurting them in the long run. Historically their prices have been very reasonable. I'm on the eastside now and have used Eastside Bavarian a few times. They seem to know what they are doing and are easy to work with but other than being less expensive than dealership, their prices aren't great.

When it comes to rod bearings I would expect <$3k all in parts, labor and tax. The Seattle area certainly seems to command a premium for cars and shop work. I'm not sure if that is because things are just more expensive here or because people don't pay attention and simply open their wallet.

I was quoted $3600 by G2 to do RBs almost exactly a year ago. I guess they bumped their labor rate another 10%. They're nice people and very knowledgeable, and I'm sure they're booked out for weeks even with higher prices.

Ian at IS garage did my RBs, he charged $1600 for labor, including tax. Parts in my case ran about $1100: I ordered BE bearings and their bolts via their website, and motor mounts, oil change kit, and new oil pan gasket kit and bolts at FCP euro. Drove about 11k miles since then, no issues.
