I went from 2007 e90 335 to 2010 e92 335 to a 2013 M3 just a few weeks ago and love it. Only bad thing is this is my 3rd e9x chassis so the inside and outside design is a bit old to me. BUT... the M3 is a completely different beast. It may look the same as a 335, but it's a completely different car. I plan on keeping it for a few years and waiting it out and seeing how the M3's/M4's look. I couldn't pass up on getting one of the last V8's.

IMHO, it'll be worth owning the E9x M3 and F8x M3/4, as they'll be essentially completely different animals.

Simples, get an M3. I had a 335, test drove a M3 - a completely different car, better in every way - how it handled, accelerated, braked, comfort & that engine! Say no more
You can wait until the M4 comes out & make your choice M3 vs M4! |

I'll just reiterate what everyone else is saying above: get the M3 before it's too late!
I went from a 2008 E90 335xi (6MT) to a 2010 E92 M3 (6MT) back in December and it has made a world of difference in my driving. I used to love driving the 335, but the M3 leaves me feeling breathless every time I get behind the wheel, like falling in love over and over again (cheesy, maybe, but apt). Once the F80 debuts, you'll have more than enough time to consider buying it, preferably to add to the stable, since whyever would you want to let go of that beautiful high-revving S65. Who needs a car stereo, anyway? |

V8 or bust!
Definitely go find a low mile E9x, first and last chance for the amazing V8 M3! I was fortunate to pick up a 2009 E93 (24k miles) earlier this month and I’m LOVING it, as will you!!

I love my e92 m3 - but would still tell you to get the M4. newer is always better. if you had asked ,back in the day, whether you should get the e46 M3 or wait for the e92 everyone would have told you to get the e46. there is always a bias towards the known over the unknown, the seen over the unseen. the fact is every successive generation of the m3 has gotten better. there's no reason to believe that wont be the case with the M4. you will have a new body style, with more powerful performance and more modability if you're into that.
personally I'm not a big fan of driving old body styles when there is a new one out. unless you can afford to do both - get the current gen AND next gen - I would wait for the M4.

The way I look at it, the M4 is probably still 3 years out before I would buy one.. They are not going to be in dealers until next year? Dealers are going to be asking MSRP + redic markup for a while? Then, it's first year reliability issues? The engine will be making the same HP (more Tq tho)? Better gas mileage but V8 rumble will be history?
I'd get a new e92 and enjoy the last "real" ///M car BMW made. |
