I deserved that wootwoot, thanks for rolling with it ;-). I hit a rabbit and a bird, in separate incidents, while racing open wheel cars years ago. I've never taken my daily driver on track and you confirmed my suspicions...just have to let go I guess and enjoy the car in its' natural environment

You missed the cheap Proformance training days during the winter but I would still recommend Proformance even if its $550 or whatever during summer. Turn2 also has lapping days and they can set you up with an instructor.

I hate BMWCCA ... less track time, too many cars.. too many rules.. costs more... PCA is the same way.. I usually do Proformance, Turn 2, Hooked on.. and then if I'm desperate I'll do a BMWCCA or PCA event |

I am signed up for Monday April 15th at PIR. It is a combined Porsche/Portland BMW club(ACA) event. I feel both clubs provide a balanced approach ( they have good control of the group without being too strict on those that don't need it)
I will bring the Prime Roofing/AR auto service e46 M3 race/ track car out. Last Saturday we took it out for a test and tune.....the first time we were able to do some suspension tuning. Initially it had some oversteer at corner entry but that is all gone now. We will need some additional time to dial out the oversteer that has now developed. Bottom line it is faster and easier to drive than before the weekend. |

PIR is fine.....only 20 minutes from my house. It used to be my least favorite of NW tracks but is a bit more fun with the new e46 M3. Of all the tracks I have experience I would rank as follows:
Nurburgring ORP Thunderhill The Ridge Pacific PIR I don't have any plans for the ridge but would like to get back there soon. Actually I can't wait to get to ORP with this car..... |

I disagree with your comments about CCA and PCA though. They are great and structured/safe driver education programs and therefore I try to support them.

However, even the PCA had a "run till dusk" event at Pacific last June (to celebrate the first day of summer I think)....I never had so much seat time as I did that day. I literally had to pull myself off the track to take a breather and let the car cool down. I was getting sloppy (tired) and knew it was time to break. |

For a first timer, I'd recommend a BMW CCA or Porsche club HPDE. They will keep you safe out there...good instructors for the most part.
You may have to take the prerequisite "car control" clinic if you haven't already done so. Most of the car clubs require a car control clinic before going onto the big boy track. With the right mindset it can be kind of fun - slalom course, skid pad, braking exercise, etc. However, I will say that the CCA car control clinic is not nearly as fun as it used to be when it was held over at Bremerton. I took mine over there...you spent the first half of the day doing the basic car control exercises, but in the afternoon and evening they set up 2 large autocross courses and let you run your car through as many times as you wanted. It was really fun! Now they hold the car control at Pacific Raceways in the large parking lot....not nearly the same as Bremerton (not enough room for the autocross). So, it's gone downhill quite a bit in my opinion. |

ProFormance sent out an email today that they added one last "winter" track day April 20th. You can get full ProFormance instruction and track time for only $195. If you're free April 20th you don't want to miss that. The regular summer $550 course isn't much different. PM me your email if you're interested and I'll forward it to you.
