New owner m3 e92 6mt few questions
Just picked it up last Saturday, 2011 LeMans blue with the 6mt. Currently has the AFE intake and mufflers. Have been enjoying the past week. Have a few questions though.
When the previous owner put the H&R springs on they for some reason put tape on the ddc sesnors in the front. I've removed the tape and put the sensors back inside of the strut. However my warning about the dampening hasn't gone away and doesn't allow me to select different modes. I keep getting a service engine light soon, with a message that says increased emissions. I checked the code with a parts store reader and I'm getting "P0500 vehicle wheel speed sensor A". However no abs lights comes on. I've searched this and all the other threads involce abs lights being on. I cleared the code, then after awhile I got a gas cap loose message, loosened the cap and tightened it back. After a few miles that went away and I started the car this morning and the service engine light came back on. Any suggestions to deal with this? Last edited by Macpsi; 01-18-2019 at 10:27 AM.. |

Welcome man. Pics first, answers next...
Ps. Reg the dampers, what's the message (on iDrive yes)? You've made sure the connectors (not sensors really) are snug in? One out sets all to stiff. Obviously two in the rear also but less easy to access. |

I mean the gas cap it looks fine nothing visibly wrong so I don't want to just throw money at it without a fix. Quote:
Definitely will upload some pictures soon! Idrive states, "dynamic dampening control malfunction". I checked the rear and it looks good and snug. After removing the tape on the front connectors it looks a bit different than the rears. I forced them inside the hole in the strut. |

I'm assuming the previous owner didn't grace you with any information on all of this stuff that was likely happening when he owned it?

He told me about the springs and the EDC warning light. Stated that it goes after driving. After looking at it, it appears that they just disconnected the plugs and taped them. Everything else I told him about but no details on. |

Did he explain what the issue was with the springs? There's literally no reason the H&R springs should affect how the EDC works. People install them all the time with EDC and EDC works fine. What did he do?

That's what I told him.. I'll ask again, but from I see it looks like whoever did it simply unplugged the sensors on the struts. If I plugged those sensors back in how soon would the the idrive warning light go away.

I just would have some reservations about how this was done if they just taped off the EDC sensors which would make no sense. |

I helped a friend swap springs on an M3 but it was a while ago so I don't really have a clear memory of that exact little part. |

Anywhere I can get the domes for the top of the strut? Checked on the OEM BMW websites where they have the diagrams but hard to locate what I actually need.

If you have any desire/future plan to go full coilover a Macht Schnell EDC emulator would take care of all of this but you will lose the the ability to adjust the damper in your current suspension. Or buy some used caps which run $20 a piece and keep chasing the issue. If you are confident the caps are seated correctly, Check the instructions online for MS emulator which will guide you to the EDC module in the trunk (depending on your model) and you can double check the Prev. Owner didn't screw around in there and create an issue if he ran a full coil over setup. Used OEM caps run $20-$30 a piece on eBay

Are you sure you have oem EDS dampers? It sounds to me like PO replaced with non-EDS dampers and taped off sensors. Post a pic of your strut tops.

Definitely not EDC shocks. Cheapest solution is to get EDC coded out or through an add on module as referenced above. Or if you want to run EDC, look for a used set - or buy new $$$.

Is there an aftermarket alternative that still retains the EDC? |

You need the EDC shock for EDC to work, or purchase an aftermarket set of (KW, Bilstein, etc) EDC-compatible shocks
