Safest way to clean dashboard electronic components?

My buddy just dumped a coffee on the dash of his 335 and his 1-6 softkey buttons are all gummed up and won't pop back out when pressed.

Do you guys have any recommendations for a safe way to clean dash electronics? I recall hearing about some kind of foam cleaner but I can't find it in The Google...

the best and most thorough way would be to pop the entire panel off and clean it. that's going to take a minute though...
